Ange Postecoglou press conference LIVE: Tottenham boss on Johnson, transfers and Super League

Ange Postecoglou is holding his press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League game against Everton on Saturday.

Tottenham made it back-to-back wins following their 2-0 triumph at Nottingham Forest last Friday and Postecoglou will be keen to ensure his team extend their winning run to put themselves in the top four for Christmas.

However, Sean Dyche’s Everton will pose them a real threat after registering ten wins from their last 15 games in all competitions.

The Toffees have enjoyed their trips to the capital so far this season having won their three away games at Brentford, West Ham and Crystal Palace.

As well as discussing Saturday’s game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Spurs boss will also be quizzed on Brennan Johnson’s fitness after his head injury in the win at Forest, the latest on the injury front and also January transfers as we are quickly approaching the start of 2024.

Our Tottenham correspondent Rob Guest is among those putting the questions to Postecoglou ahead of the match at home to Everton. Scroll down for his latest updates from the press conference at Hotspur Way.

Ange on Skipp as No.6

Most of the time he has been coming on in games where we need some energy further up the park and that’s the role he has fulfilled, but he can play at six and probably will play there. We have three games over the next week so he probably will get an opportunity at some point in that position and with Biss being away pretty much until the end of January, I am sure we will use him in that space.

Ange on if Spurs have seen the best of Kulusevski

I hope not, I think there’s more to come with Deki, he’s still fairly young age-wise as well. I’ve been really pleased with him because he’s played a number of positions for us. One of the reasons we’re getting through this period is guys who’ve been willing to sort of take on different roles, whether it’s him, Ben Davies, Emerson Royal, guys who’ve had to played different positions for us at different times. Irrespective of the position Deki has been a real impact player for us the whole season, whether that’s out wide…I really like him playing inside, it gives us another dimension is terms of our attacking threats.

Ange on if Spurs will be busy with transfers

Yeah, I don’t really know. It’s one of those things, January is a fairly tricky month in terms of clubs doing business but we’ve got guys in the background working it out and once the window opens we’ll see if we can make an impact.

Ange on the job Dyche has done at Everton

I think even before that… if you take away their 10-point deduction, they’d be in a fairly good position in the league. I think they’ve been one of the more consistent sides all year. Sean’s done an outstanding job but when you get hit with something like that it’s often a measure of the playing group and the manager, how they respond to adversity and you’ve got to say the response has been first class.

Ange on if Van de Ven and Maddison could be back early January or later in the month

Hard to say. They’re both in rehab and neither of them are anywhere near training with the first team at the moment. If you look at timelines, Micky and Madders did it in pretty much in the same game. Micky might be just ahead of schedule in terms of with Madders. Both kind of January and Bentancur fairly similar. It’s not about trying to not give out information, these things kind of either accelerate or get delayed when you get into the final phase. Until I see them out with us, it’s hard for me to say.

Ange on whether he feels the need to address discipline with the squad

No not really. Obviously it is something that is not great for us as it is costing us during games, it is costing us post-games. Players are well aware of the kind of impact those things have and I’m sure they will learn from those experiences. My experience in football is that the best remedy for those kind of things is players missing out. If they feel they are missing out on something then it brings them into line pretty quickly. Hopefully we keep winning and the guys who miss out learn their lesson that way.

Ange on new European Super League proposals

Mate, I’ve no time in the day to have a look at that. No idea. The club put out a statement and we’ve got to be wary I’m not the club spokesman on these matters. But fair to say the club has put a statement on our position as a football club and that’s where we sit.

Ange on when Sess will be back in training

Sess is still a couple of weeks away, maybe more. We have to be really careful about when we integrate him.

Ange on team news

Gio’s back, he’s fine. Gio has trained the last couple of days so he’s available. Ashley Phillips is also available.

Tottenham loan latest

It was a rather frustrating week for a handful of Tottenham’s loan stars with not a lot of action coming their way.

Tanguy Ndombele was one of those to watch on from the sidelines and reports from Turkey have stated that Galatasaray are ‘expected’ to hold a meeting with Spurs to terminate the player’s season-long loan.

Here’s the very latest on the loan front for the eight Tottenham players playing away from N17.

The Tottenham XI to face Everton

So who will Ange Postecoglou name in his Tottenham XI against Everton?
