Alan Shearer has come to the defence of Mohamed Salah, after the Liverpool’s bizarre touchline row with manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds forward was involved in a heated exchange with his manager during the 2-2 draw with West Ham on Saturday.

Salah was left on the bench for the trip for the London Stadium, but upon being introduced to the game by the German, let his frustration boil over in the direction of Klopp.

Klopp seemed to say something to the Egyptian that provoked an angry reaction, and it led to Salah continually waving his arms about, pointing to the pitch and then pointing at his manager.

Speaking on the incident during BBC’s Match of the Day, Shearer had sympathy for the Liverpool talisman and could understand his frustrations.

‘We don’t know what Klopp has said to him there. He’s said something that’s riled him.

‘He’s obviously got the right hump with being left out and probably rightly so, even though hasn’t hit the heights that Mo Salah has done over the years. He’s been an unbelievable player.

‘He ignores Jurgen, he gives the Liverpool fans a little round of applause and goes straight down the tunnel.

‘But we’re guessing as to what Jurgen said to him. I understand that if Mo has the right hump because the amount of times he’s been Liverpool’s superstar and their saviour.

‘He’s got 17 goals in 25 league starts. Anyone else you’d look at that and think ‘unbelievable’. It’s a shame it’s going to end like that because of what Klopp’s done and what Salah’s done.’

Salah continued to berate his departing manager and only stopped his show of discontent when striker Darwin Nunez intervened.

Klopp and the Liverpool star later passed each other on the pitch, however, there was no show of reconciliation between the duo -much to the chagrin of the Liverpool fans.

The Egyptian is once again the club’s leading goal-scorer this season with 24 strikes in all competitions, but has suffered for his best form since returning from the African Nations Cup in January.

It was an afternoon of frustration for the Merseysiders, as their title bid almost all but ended as they dropped two more points against David Moyes’ side.

Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring for the Hammers, before Andy Robertson and an Alphonse Areola own goal turned the game in Liverpool’s favour.

However, Michail Antonio’s goal thirteen minutes from time saw West Ham gain a share of the spoils and leave Klopp’s hopes of ending his final season with a title medal in tatters.
