Kate Middleton’s iconic catwalk wearing see-through dress seen on Netflix

Netflix dropped a sneak peek of Kate Middleton’s iconic catwalk today, where she wore a see-through dress at university.

The Princess of Wales met Prince William at the University of St Andrews, where they both gained degrees between 2001 and 2005.

The Crown have taken a look at the Waleses’ early romance, which developed at the Scottish institution.

During her time at university, Kate famously wore a see-through dress for a charity catwalk.

The garment was designed by Charlotte Todd, and it went on to sell for a whopping £78,000 at auction just before Kate and William’s 2011 royal wedding.

According to royal author Tina Brown, William was at a front-row table and “everyone noticed that he was transfixed by a smoking-hot brunette who waltzed down the catwalk in a silk dress with the shortest of short skirts that showed off her figure and supermodel-long legs”.

Brown added: “For William, it was a double-take as indelible as Vronsky’s first sight of Anna Karenina at the Moscow railway station.”

Todd originally designed the dress for an affordable £30 when she was a fashion student.

The designer later commented: “I never imagined as I sat knitting this piece it would be so important.”

Costume designers for The Crown have subsequently created an almost identical copy of the see-through outfit.

Netflix posted a video today teasing the clip where Meg Bellamy, who portrays a young Kate Middleton, walked the catwalk.

Speaking about the experience of filming the scene, Bellamy told the streaming giant: “I think at first I was a bit apprehensive, purely because it was the first time I had really felt like I was reliving a key event that I remembered seeing in the news.

“But on the day itself, it was completely different. It was amazing.

“Erik Richter Strand was our director and he instantly made me feel so comfortable.

“Polly Bennett choreographed it, she was my hype woman and Ed was my hype man.

“It was a really liberating experience and it was so great for the self-esteem! I had such fun.”
