Yahoo Mail announces quick fix for broken email app – here’s how to do it

Yahoo Mail customers have been experiencing serious problems accessing their email accounts over the past day, with thousands unable to use the service on their phones and computers. The company said on X, the social media site formerly know as Twitter, that a fix had been issued for the bug but might take 24 hours to take effect. In the meantime, Yahoo recommends uninstalling and reinstalling the app, or alternativelty trying the below quick fix advice for Android and iPhone users.

Here is the advice Yahoo Mail gave to its customers on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.

Android devices:

1) Long press the app icon.

2) Click the info icon on the top right corner to open the app settings.

3) Scroll down to the usage section and storage row, and open it.

4) Clear cache and clear data.

5) Reopen the app and it should work as usual.

iOS devices:

1) Close any existing session of the Yahoo app.

2) Open the Settings app on your iOS Device.

3) Search for the Yahoo App, and click on it.

4) Scrolling to the bottom, you should see a toggle button called “Reset All Accounts”.

5) Toggle on the button and relaunch the app. (You may be asked to login again)

But even since this advice was posted online on Tuesday, Yahoo Mail customers are having mixed results with the method, with some taking to X to say the fix does not work.

“It requires sending me a notification to my phone to verify its me but that isn’t coming through,” said X user @Dee03702645, while others said after trying the fix their password to their email account no longer worked.

“I’ve done all this and still won’t work,” said @EmmaYouthworker.

“My one, it’s not working, I don’t access to retrieve my account key. Customer care was useless over the phone. They said that I had lost my account. Just like that. It must be a way to pay for all the suffering they had caused,” remarked @CiprianAldescu.

Despite continued frustrations, the fixes do appear to be working for some Yahoo customers.

“I cleared my Yahoo app data and cache and everything seems to be working fine now”, said @helendodds65.

“Yes tried the app data and cache clear yesterday first thing when noticed app shutting down and it didn’t work. Tried again this morning and it worked. I’d say there was a serious issue with Yahoo servers but we might never know!”, said @VinnieM261245.

“I uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked!! 1 am in the morning!! But hey!! Better late than never!”, said @44Rose11.

If uninstalling and reinstalling the app does not work, try the above fixes next. If neither work, you should follow Yahoo’s advice and see if the app starts working again within 24 hours. Otherwise you can contact Yahoo Customer Care on X here.
