One of Wolves or Coventry will be heading to Wembley this season as the midlands rivals meet in the FA Cup quarter-finals this afternoon.
Wolves have enjoyed an excellent campaign so far in the Premier League, defying expectations in manager Gary O’Neil’s first season in charge. The cherry on the cake would be a cup run, as four-time FA Cup winners Wolves look to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2019 – where they lost to Watford in extra time.
Coventry are the lowest-ranked side left in the FA Cup, with Mark Robins’ side sitting eighth in the Championship table and one point outside the play-off spots. The Sky Blues ended Maidstone United’s dream run in the previous round and are bidding to their first FA Cup semi-final since 1987. If they do so, they would make a swift return to Wembley after losing the play-off final to Luton Town last May.

31 mins: Coventry have the ball now and are looking to take the sting out of Wolves’ recent play. They give it away cheaply though, with a bit of pinball in the Wolves half resulting in a few long clearances.

28 mins: Another chance almost straight away as Lemina’s clipped ball over the top finds Sarabia in space in the box. He lays it off to Semedo, but his shot is straight at Collins and is saved.

26 mins: Wolves look like they’re trying to calm it down a bit and regain some control.
They almost have a great chance as Jose Sa launches a ball long. it looks like it’s going out for a goal kick but Nelson Semedo manages to get round Kitching and keep it in play. He’s already almost next to the goal but he doesn’t have many options, so elects to just pass it into the centre of the box, but the shot is blocked.

23 mins: A couple of attacks have broken down due to sloppy play from both sides, much to the frustration of fans. Ait-Nouri is the latest guilty party as his touch is poor and it gets away from him near the edge of the Coventry box.

20 mins: Coventry have probably been the brighter of the two sides so far, but there’s not a lot in it.
As I type that, Wolves nearly have an excellent chance. Ait-Nouri, who’s been at the centre of a lot of Wolves’ positive play, flicks a ball into the penalty area with the outside of his boot. Sarabia is chasing, but it just overruns and ends up in the hands of Collins.

18 mins: Wolves venture into the Coventry box again, with Lemina getting to the touchline. His cutback is easily cleared though.

15 mins: Ellis Simms wins the ball on the left, near the Wolves box. He’s on his own as he drives into the box, and eventually lays it off but the shot is blocked. Shortly after, Wright cuts in from the left and releases a shot which goes wide of the far post.

13 mins: Jose Sa looks like he’s picked up an injury. He’s sitting on the ground holding his upper thigh, and Wolves look like they might take him off.
Wolves’ corner is cleared easily and Coventry look to break. Van Ewijk is carrying the ball and has options to his left and right; he doesn’t use either of them, and eventually he’s dispossessed.

Wolves 0-0 Coventry
12 mins: Ait-Nouri controls well down the left but his cross is easily collected. Wolves get their first’chance’ of the game as Air-Nouri and Joao Gomes exchange passes at the edge of the box, with the latter sending Ait-Nouri through into the box. The Algerian’s cut-back is cleared for a corner.
No clear-cut chances yet but it’s been a lively start, with the away fans helping provide the unique cup atmosphere.
