What time is the Apple event today? How to watch a UK livestream and what to expect

Just in time for Halloween, tech giant Apple has announced it has a big event lined up which it’s billing as “scary fast”.

Unlike the normal morning kick-off times for these events, the firm behind the iPhone and Macbooks has gone for an evening appointment on the eve of All Hallow’s Eve.

And in a nod to the spooky goings-on associated with Halloween, it’s not just fast but “scary fast”.

Here’s what we know about the experience and how to watch it.

What time is the Apple event today?

According to apple.com, the event is scheduled for 4.59pm PT/7.59pm ET, which is 11.59pm in the UK.

This is much later than usual and is not in-person but online which has sparked a number of rumours about the focus of the announcement.

On Apple’s events page, an animated Apple logo transforms into the “finder” icon from the Mac operating system which has also triggered further speculation.

There is speculation the event could involve Macs and the M3 chip (Photo: Apple)

What can we expect from the event?

Macrumors.com asserts that the use of the finder icon from the Mac operating system suggest it will be about Macs and the M3 chip.

It said the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models were updated with M2 Pro and ‌M2‌ Max chips in January 2023, so it is early for an update but Apple may choose to refresh a Mac twice in a single year.

Apple also hasn’t refreshed the 24-inch iMac since 2021 and still uses the M1 chip, so that could also be part of the announcement.

While the website TechCrunch.com believes “scary fast” “is most likely a reference to new chips”, and that the silver Apple logo on the invite and the AR effect that transforms it into the Finder widget “are strong indicators that we’re dealing with new Macs here”.

It added: “The most logical headliners at the moment are a new 24-inch iMac, along with a MacBook Pro refresh, powered by the M3 and M3 Pro chips, respectively.”

How to watch it live

Fans will be able to watch the event live on apple.com, on the Apple TV app or watch the livestream on YouTube.
