VOTE: You can help Alex win Overtake of the Month

Our No23 made one of the sport’s top five moves in June when he deftly advanced through the order in the mixed conditions at the Canadian GP.

Even more impressive is that Albono’s nomination is the only one that features a driver expertly passing two rivals in a single move.

To recap back to that wet afternoon on June 10th, Alex was a top-10 starter and had kept in the fight for points all race long.

With the track slowly drying after a mid-race shower, he had crept to the rear wing of Daniel Ricciardo ahead, pressuring the RB on the entry to the Turn 10 hairpin.

Albono’s confidence in his FW46 saw him enjoy better traction onto the back straight.

Even with DRS disabled because of the inclement weather, he used the slipstream to grab a speed advantage on the Aussie, pulled to the left and onto the racing line as Ricciardo defended the inside, and was ahead in the braking zone.

Yet Alex wasn’t finished! Esteban Ocon was now directly in front but gingerly slowing his Alpine into the final chicane, and our Thai ace took full advantage.

A last-minute dash to the right, millimetres ahead of Ricciardo’s RB, saw the Williams Racing car claim the right-hand apex, forcing Ocon to slow even further.

P11 had transformed to P9 in a matter of metres, and with Ocon’s compromised entry to Turn 12, Alex had clear air behind him to focus on fighting forward.

“One of the great moves — brilliant stuff!” Those were the words of F1 commentator Jolyon Palmer, and it’s no wonder Albono is in the hunt for the Overtake of the Month Award.
