Tyson’s latest as Canelo weighs in on ‘show’

Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight champion, is a little over three months from his return to the ring after nearly two decades since his last professional fight. On July 20, Tyson will exhibition boxing fight against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will stream live on Netflix.

Tyson has begun making media appearances in the lead-up to the much-anticipated bout.

In a recent interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, he revealed that he is “scared to death” about the upcoming fight with Paul. However, Tyson also clarified that this is an exhibition fight, and as the bout draws nearer, it becomes more of a reality for him, and he becomes less nervous.

“And in reality, I’m invincible,” Tyson told Hannity.

Paul’s hopes to one day fight Canelo

Jake Paul has a current boxing record of 9-1 with six knockouts, but half of those fights have come against boxers making their debuts, including former NBA player Nate Robinson. In March, Paul recently won via TKO in the first round against Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico. Before that, he fought Andre August in December 2023 and won via first-round knockout.

Paul has been very clear about who he wants to fight in the future: Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez.

After defeating Bourland by TKO, Paul called out Canelo, “I know you want it. I’m representing Puerto Rico, and you’re representing Mexico. So, it’s Puerto Rico versus Mexico.”

Canelo has been clear that he is “not interested at all” with a fight with Paul.

Canelo: “Tyson vs. Paul is not a fight, it is a show”

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was asked if he was interested in the Tyson-Paul fight. Canelo simply responded, “Not at all,” when asked if this bout opens the door for a future bout.

“I think Netflix is good for boxing but for this specific fight, but Netflix is doing it wrong,” Canelo said. “It is more of a show than a fight.”

Canelo Alvarez will be fighting against another Mexican fighter, Jaime Munguia, on May 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
