Two arrested after man, 57, killed by his own car as it was ‘being stolen’

Two suspects have been arrested after a 57-year-old man was killed in east Manchester after being hit by his own car that was ‘being stolen’.

The victim was pronounced dead by emergency services at the scene on Olympic Street, Beswick, at around 10.54am on Saturday (March 16). Greater Manchester Police had been called to reports of an unresponsive man.

A murder probe was launched, with a scene remaining in place throughout the day amid fast-paced investigations. CSI officers were taking images of the scene as detectives made door-to-door enquires and evidence markers were placed in the road. Police said early enquiries suggested the victim had been hit by a Land Rover, understood to have been his own car.
