Retired actor Jack Hogan, best known for his role in WWII series Combat!, has died at the age of 94.

Hogan died at his home on Bainbridge Island, Washington of natural causes on December 6, his son West confirmed to Variety today.

Hogan played Private First Class William G Kirby on the hit ABC show Combat! between 1962 and 1967, which followed a squad of American soldiers fighting in France during the Second World War.

Born Richard Roland Benson, Jr. on November 24, 1929, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Hogan studied architecture in college before joining the Air Force and fighting in the Korean War, rising to the rank of staff sergeant.

He later studied drama in New York and worked as a lifeguard until he landed the role in Combat!. Hogan took on another military role as Sergeant Jerry Miller on NBC’s Adam-12, and went on to work as a casting director for Magnum, P.I.

As an actor, Hogan appeared in five films and a litany of television series. 

He made his big screen debut in Man from Del Rio in 1956 before finding subsequent roles in The Bonnie Parker Story (1958), Paratroop Command (1959), The Legend of Tom Dooley (1959), and The Cat Burglar (1960).

Hogan was active until 1993, appearing in the TV series Raven in two episodes in two separate roles.

He was married to Playboy model and actress Joyce Nizzari, 83, between 1967 and 1980, before later marrying Barbara Bates.

According to Variety, Hogan is survived by his first wife, his daughter Tehani Hogan, his son West, his granddaughter Kai andgrandson Skyler.
