Tottenham vs Man City highlights and reaction as Nathan Ake scores late in FA Cup

Reaction from Pep Guardiola after City win

Some words from Pep Guardiola after his treble-winners got through;

I think so [deserved win] for the statistics and the way we played. It was a real good play. We have found it hard so many times here. It pleased me. I congratulated them and we defend a title. Coming here was difficult and we did it. [The goal] I don’t know. I didn’t see the action. Nathan has incredible tempo in set-pieces and attack. I’m very pleased.

Reaction from match-winner Nathan Ake

Some reaction coming in from Nathan Ake in the the ITV Sport studio;

So happy. It was so tough and we worked hard over the whole game. I’m not sure what happened and the goal and I would have to watch it back. I’ll have to see it back. I think we trusted in the way we played and created numerous chances. We had that belief to keep going when we created so many chances.

Man City through to FA Cup fifth round

Manchester City are through to the FA Cup fifth round after a 1-0 win over Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola’s men left it late and defender Nathan Ake settled the scores from a corner.

He gets the MOM award for his efforts! Analysis and reaction to follow.

GOAL – Nathan Ake scores for Man City (0-1)

Wow. Some late drama here. Nathan Ake scores. The check has been complete and the goal stands. Vicario dropped the ball and City’s Dutch defender prods home from under the goal posts.

City have FIVE minutes to get through to book their place in the fifth round.

Walker pegs back Werner in foot race

A fantasting (and telling) recovery run from Walker pegs back Werner.

Walker gets the gold medal in that foot race between those speedsters.

Gvardiol picks up a yellow card in the meantime.

BIG chances for Bernardo and KDB

Chance for City as Bernardo takes aim. It was an air shot that presented the Portuguese with that opening and he strikes it well, but straight at Vicario between the Tottenham posts. Into the final 10 minutes.

KDB then passes up an even better chance. What a let off!

Guardiola shown yellow card after KDB foul

Pep Guardiola has been carded for protesting against a foul given away by KBD on the byline. In the good old days that would have been classed as a shoulder barge and that would be that.

Double change for Tottenham

Skipp and Maddison ON.

Bentancur and Johnson OFF.

KDB and Doku have added something

Doku and De Bruyne have instantly given City something different. Porro doesn’t look like he wants to stay back and mark Doku, so the space is now on this left wing for the Blues to make something happen.

Tottenham looking a threat at set-pieces

City have been made to deal with a couple of set-pieces in the last few minutes and they have managed to clear their lines. But how many situations like that can they keep on conceding? Dias the guilty part for a foul.

Double substitution for City

De Bruyne and Doku ON.

Alvarez and Bobb OFF.

Substitutes warming up for City

Jack Grealish, John Stones and Matheus Nunes are all warming up as City come under the cosh a little bit. Tottenham have had their backs up since the handball shout that never was on Ruben Dias and are turning the screw a little on City.

Maddison and Grealish share funny moment

A little chit chat from James Maddison and Jack Grealish – substitues for their respective sides tonight – as they warm-up on the touchline. The two are good friends and teammates with England. Will either get the nod to try and help break the deadlock?

Tottenham defender Udogie is now booked for a late challenge.

Kovacic booked for Udogie challenge

A first booking goes to the City midfielder. Nothing malicious.

Penalty appeals turned down for Tottenham

Timo Werner crosses and Ruben Dias blocks that attempt. No handball. There were loud shouts behind the goal – not so on the field it has to be said – and no penalty to speak about. Werner and Brennan Johnson combined just a moment ago, too, with Stefan Ortega saving from the latter.

City on top early in the second half

That’s a huge challenge from Hojbjerg to deny City with Alvarez lurking. He slid in with some risk in the Tottenham area and timed it right to kick away for a corner. City on top.

Alvarez goes close upon the restart

Play has restarted with 45 minutes still to come. A snapshot to Kevin De Bruyne warming up, there, but it might be too soon for some changes. A slower start to the second half as Julian Alvarez fires over!

Pep Guardiola on Oscar Bobb decision

Oscar Bobb was prefered to Jack Grealish when the teams were announced – with Kevin De Bruyne also named on the substitutes bench – as Pep Guardiola moved to explain that decision during his pre-match interview.

H/T player ratings for City

Ake 7

Gvardiol 6

Rodri 7

Kovacic 7

Foden 6

Silva 7

Bobb 6

Alvarez 6

Honours even as the H/T whistle sounds

So there goes the half-time whistle and the players come in for a break.

Some frantic and high-octane play in the middle third – without too many genuine chances – but the main flashpoint came in the seventh minute when Oscar Bobb netted. However, by the barest margin, he had strayed offside and the goal was chalked off by VAR.

The stats only tell half the story

The stats say that City have had six shots but they’ve created very little of note. Neither have Spurs, though. The game has fizzed along in the middle of the pitch but neither team is really taking the initiative to save us all from a replay.

Bernardo spoken to by referee after foul

Bernardo commits another fouls and he gets a quick talking to from the referee. No card.

Play restarts after short technical break

A short break in play – due to technical difficulties for the officials – finally adds a breather into this pulsating (yet goalless) meeting. Tottenham get us back underway and City immediately commit a foul.

Ortega deals with Richarlison moment

Out comes Ortega – beyond his penalty area – to nod away with Richarlison lurking. Somehow we are well past the 30-minute mark and there are no goals (yet). Will the deadlock be broken before half-time?

Foden needs to start besting Udogie

Foden is getting shrugged off the ball a lot tonight, which is not very like Foden at all. He needs to start getting the better of Udogie in particular if City are to get more space in the final third.

Tottenham danger cleared by Ake and Dias

Tottenham break quickly and Johnson looked up to deliver. Ake got back and nodded it away for a corner, though, which comes to nothing as Dias heads clear. The home fans are cranking it up a notch as they sense their side in a promising moment.

The space City are trying to exploit

City are looking to get Walker in behind Udogie here with the City man earning plenty of space high on the right side. Even when Udogie partially clears, someone like Foden is there to mop up the second ball.

Tottenham starting to punch back at City

City have been the dominant side in the opening stages. However, the Londoners have enjoyed one or two promising moments in the last 90 seconds, pressing high and attempting to win the ball. A corner from the right-hand side comes to nothing, though.

Bernardo takes aim for City in fluent move

Another promising moment for City with Bernardo trying his luck after Foden was, once again, involved in the build-up. Surely the two teams can’t keep up at this pace. It’s been an astonishing start.

A frantic start to this FA Cup showdown

Tottenham had enjoyed the early control in the opening minutes but that was a reminder of how little City need to be threatening. Foden’s shot was sharp and Bobb was quick to follow up even if he was just offside. This has the makings of a very good game.

Oscar Bobb goal ruled out after VAR check

Some confusion in the early stages and another delay for VAR… but the would-be goal will not stand. Oscar Bobb was inches offside looking at the replays and City might easily be 1-0 up here.
