Three rushed to hospital after car ploughs into parked vehicles following police chase

Three people were rushed to hospital after a car smashed into a number of parked vehicles in Sale following a police chase on Sunday evening (December 3).

A huge emergency services presence descended on Marsland Road in Sale, near the Moorfield Pub, at around 8.30pm after the vehicle, that was being followed by officers after failing to stop, ploughed into a number of parked cars at the side of the road.

The fire service, paramedics and officers, along with the Technical Rescue Unit attended the incident and cordoned off the road amid investigations into the major smash.

Two people who had become trapped inside, had to be rescued from the wreckage by fire crews, and it is understood all three were taken to hospital, with at least one person seriously injured.

It has been confirmed the collision happened after the car in question had failed to stop for officers moments before, resulting in a short pursuit. The incident has now been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate and the Independent Office for Police conduct.

Pictures and videos from the scene show a large cordon in place on Sunday night, with debris strewn across the road. One car was seen visibly crushed beside a crumbling wall at the front of a house within the police tape.

A GMP spokesperson said: “At approximately 8:20pm this evening (Sunday 3 December 2023), officers in a police vehicle requested a vehicle to stop in Sale

“The driver failed to stop and a short police pursuit commenced. A collision then occurred between the vehicle that failed to stop and a row of parked cars on Marsland Road, Sale. A scene has been put in place to assist with enquiries and road closures are in place.
