A shopper ended up regretted keeping his blue sports top on when he popped in to Tesco for some last minute Christmas shopping.
Paul Williams, from Llandaff, popped into the Western Avenue Tesco store in Cardiff fresh after a playing a game of tennis to grab a couple of things. And like most people hitting the shops just before Christmas, he was hoping to get in and out as quick as possible.
However, one thing stood between his plan for an event free trip to Tesco – and that was his blue sports top, which shoppers mistook for the store’s uniform.
So, within moments of stepping foot inside the store, poor Paul ended up being besieged by questions from shoppers thinking he worked there. And as he worked his way around the aisles trying to get his groceries, the requests to locate items within the stores kept coming thick and fast.
He quipped: “Never go to Tesco, after playing tennis, in a blue tennis top. Especially two days before Christmas.”
Paul said he ended up answering “hundreds” of requests – although we think he may be hamming it up just a little for comic effect. Figures aside though, he certainly ended up getting more than what he bargained for.
After documenting his plight on X, formerly known as Twitter, he had social media users giggling in fits of laughter – and who were quick to make a few quips themselves.
One user asked: “Ok but which aisle is the Schloer in? Fizzy pop, booze or seasonal?” And another added: “Did you wangle any staff discount”?
I think it’s safe to say, that next time rugby writer Paul goes to Tesco he’ll be picking a different outfit.
