The Roadmap For The Next Five Months Of ‘Destiny 2’

With this past week ending the main storyline for Season of the Wish in Destiny 2, we are heading into a good long stretch of time before the release of The Final Shape on June 4, 2024. It’s another six month long season, which we’ve had for the last two expansions before this one as well, and as such, Bungie wants something to fill that gap. At least a little bit, especially in this current “revenue projection miss” climate.

Across the different TWABs and Joe Blackburn videos it may be a little hard to remember exactly what’s supposed to be coming, and when. So, here’s the breakdown of what we do know, though nothing has exact dates as of yet.

January:

Nothing. As far as we know, nothing of significance is happening for the next two weeks other than usual resets and the final catalyst unlocking for the Wish-Keeper bow in Starcrossed next Tuesday.

February:

Moments of Triumphs returns, which is not so much an actual event as it is a bunch of challenges you complete for a few different rewards like ghost shells, sparrows, emblems and such. It’s in pursuit of the MMXIVXII-whatever title. It’s mainly doing a lot of different things in seasonal or expansion content, and ritual playlists with some sort of stipulation like killing things with ritual weapons. It’s…something to do, but probably not a huge draw to return.

Wishes are some sort of “progression, reward-centric” weekly quests, which I believe is supposed to mean something that progresses week-to-week like the seasonal storyline, but likely on a much smaller scale. And despite the name, it’s going to be open to all players, not just those who own Season of the Wish. We do not know anything past this about a potential plot or loot. My guess would be this starts relatively early in the month so the January dead time can end. Not clear on how long it runs or how many “wishes” there are.

March:

Guardian Games will arrive, marking two events in one season alongside The Dawning because of the delay. Joe Blackburn says it will have a “revitalized focus” on class v class competition, which I thought was the whole point, but we’ll see. New Eververse armor, a new weapon of some sort and new rolls on the old ones. Could be worth playing depending, as The Dawning did end up with a lot of great loot this time around.

April-May:

This is the launch of Into the Light, which is the bigger “midseason stopgap” thing Bungie is building that will not be on the scale of something like the 30th Anniversary Pack, but something where it’s claimed it will be both for veteran and new players alike, spanning the two months leading into The Final Shape. It will let you “prepare” for The Final Shape, but whether that’s a story arc or loot, we don’t know. Given that the story ended with Crow going into the portal to then let us through, I guess this takes place in the “we’re waiting around for him to get there” portion of that.

May:

The PvP Map Pack. This was announced back in November 2023, and back then the stated month of release for the three new maps was May 2024. Like many things, this could be subject to change, and perhaps it could be delayed to launch with or after The Final Shape, but that is the last info we have about it. I do know portions of the PvP strike team were laid off this past fall, so that could affect it as well.

Then, The Final Shape is in June, and Episodes will commence after that. It’s going to be a long five (well, four and a half now) months, but hopefully some of the interim content will provide at least a few reasons to stop back.
