Suspected XL Bully shot dead by police after two injured in horror dog attack

A suspected Bully XL breed dog was shot dead by armed police in West Yorkshire tonight after two people and a dog were injured in an attack.

West Yorkshire Police said it was called to Sowod, Halifax just before 6pm due to a “concern for safety” after a dog attack.

Photos shared on a residents’ Facebook group for Stainland Road in the Yorkshire town showed armed officers moving through gardens to confront the dog, believed to belong to the Bully XL breed.

One resident said they watched the “large brown Bully XL” climb over four fences before it was “cornered” and “shot twice.”

Another resident said the police were “excellent” and “very professional” in ensuring everyone was out of the way before the dog was shot.

West Yorkshire Police told GB News: “Attempts to restrain the dog were unsuccessful and it was destroyed by armed officers who attended the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of what happened.”

Residents reported hearing two gunshots after the police swooped on the dog in the garden.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

XL Bullys will be added to a list of banned dogs under the Dangerous Dog Act from the end of this year, the Government has confirmedPA

At least one helicopter was heard above the area as the police hunted down the dog, who injured two people and another dog.

The police added that one woman has been arrested in connection with the incident.

It is not known if she is the owner of the dog.

The Bully XL breed was banned by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after a public safety campaign by victims of the “killer” dogs, who have been involved in several high-profile lethal incidents in recent years.
