Solanke backed by a million as Haaland replacement

More than 1.6million Fantasy Premier League managers have parted company with Erling Haaland (£13.9m), making him the most-sold player for Gameweek 17.

The Norwegian is unlikely to be fit for Saturday’s home encounter with Crystal Palace, and he will not have a fixture in Gameweek 18 due to Manchester City’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. As a result, managers have wasted no time in finding replacements.

Dominic Solanke (£6.8m) has emerged as the No 1 transfer target, with over 1m turning to the AFC Bournemouth talisman.

The in-form forward has scored four goals in his last five outings ahead of Saturday’s home match against Luton Town.

Solanke’s new owners will be hoping he can avoid the “curse” of the most-bought player, with 11 of the 15 top Gameweek recruits failing to return this season.

There were mixed fortunes for Tottenham Hotspur’s two most-bought players on Friday.

Snapped up by 631,935 Fantasy bosses, Pedro Porro (£5.5m) delighted his new and existing owners with a clean sheet and a share of the bonus points in the 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest. Among defenders, only Kieran Trippier (£6.9m) can better his tally of 11 returns this season.

However, the 855,000+ managers who turned to Son Heung-min (£9.7m) suffered a fifth blank in seven matches. The South Korean ranked joint-first for shots against Steve Cooper’s side, with four, but was unable to find the back of the net.

Ollie Watkins (£8.6m) can now be found in over 43 per cent of teams as more than 640,000 people bought the Aston Villa forward. Rested for the midweek match in the UEFA Europa Conference League, Watkins is expected to return to the starting XI for Sunday’s trip to Brentford.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.2m) continues to rise in popularity with nearly 850,000 transferring him in since Gameweek 15. He has produced two goals and two assists across his last four matches ahead of Sunday’s contest with Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) has been captained by more than 2.7m managers as he looks to extend his incredible run against the Red Devils. He has averaged 18.0 points per match over his previous four appearances versus Man Utd, combining eight goals with four assists and 10 bonus points.

Finally, with Arsenal entertaining a Brighton & Hove Albion side who are yet to keep a clean sheet in 2023/24, Bukayo Saka (£9.0m) has been handed the captain’s armband by over 310,000 Fantasy bosses. Impressively, Saka has produced a goal or assist in 12 of his 15 starts this season.

What have the the top managers done?

Salah is the overwhelming armband favourite among the leading 100 managers in Fantasy, with 82 entrusting him with the captaincy.

And Łukasz Zegar, 78th in the overall standings, has plumped for Solanke in an effort to propel himself up the leaderboard.
