Shopper accused of being ‘greedy’ after buying nine lamb legs worth £252 for £36

A Sainsbury’s shopper has been accused of being ‘greedy’ after picking up nine legs of lamb worth £252 for just £36.

Alwyn took to money-saving Facebook group, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, to show off his meaty Christmas haul. The bargain hunter wrote: Mate had a good deal at Sainsbury’s today. Nine legs of lamb. Retail price of £252, we paid £36. Seems fair to me!”

While some congratulated the shopper, others suggested they had bought the items at the expense of other shoppers. One scathing shopper wrote “Unfortunately the age of entitlement”, while another added: “That’s shocking. They will end up hyping other goods on poor customers.”

Group users routinely share their tips, tricks and bargain hacks. But on this occasion, some of them clearly felt that nine legs of lamb was excessive, according to Birmingham Live.

Another person said: “Shame you didn’t leave a few for others that couldn’t afford much”, while a like-minded person commented: “Save some for everyone else won’t you.” Others, however, applauded the apparent quick-thinking on the part of the shopper.

The photograph has now had thousands of likes, and one approving user wrote: “This deal has been going on since November in our Sainsbury’s. I currently have 7 in my freezer from buying one a week! Tescos are now also doing it. My friend bought 2 at 10p last weekend as there were so many left over at end of day knock downs!!” Another agreed and typed: “You snooze you loose.” And a fellow fan agreed, adding: “What a great bargain – well done!”

Sainsbury’s was approached for comment.
