A gang of five masked thieves were caught on camera ransacking a million-dollar home in California while the family was out on a camping trip.

The family, who lived in the community in Ventura County for 18 years, was left in total shock after the gang of robbers entered their home at 6:30pm on January 12 and stole their valuable and sentimental possessions.

‘I have a really hard time sleeping in my bed. I have a hard time being in my own house,’ the owner said.

Five masked intruders were caught on horrifying home surveillance cameras as they broke the lock on the Camarillo home’s back gate and made their way inside.

They also broke a motion-sensor spotlight during their rampage so that no one would be alerted to their misdeeds.

The thieves trashed the home within a matter of minutes – stealing dozens of items and leaving the rest of the family’s belongings sprawled on the floors.

Speaking to KTLA, the victim, who was identified by her first name Aimee, said: ‘They took lots of jewelry, cash, cameras, they took silverware, just easy, little things that were fast to pick up.

‘You couldn’t even walk on the floor. It was just everywhere.

‘They took my children’s baby jewelry. They took my father’s special things that are all I have left of him, my grandmother’s things.’

Speaking about how she feels, Aimee said: ‘So violated and unsafe.’

The robbers had left the scene by the time that Aimee’s son, 20, returned home from the gym. He did not go on the family camping trip.

Camarillo Police and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department launched an investigation, but the family said they are not hopeful about seeing any of their stolen items again.

No arrests have been made in the case.

In November last year, one Los Angeles homeowner made headlines after he pulled a gun on two masked intruders who attempted to break into his house.

The father, who has not been identified, was approached by one of the masked robbers from behind as he walked up to his home in the affluent Mid-City neighborhood.

The homeowner then reached for his gun and started a shootout with the intruders.

‘There was nothing in my house that was worth dying for. But I was willing to die for my family,’ the man told KABC.

He added that his five-month-old baby, wife and nanny were all in the house at the time of the incident. The average house price in Mid-City is more than $1m.

The terrifying incident comes as crime in Democrat-run Los Angeles has soared following the defund police movement. The lax law enforcement has sparked an exodus of residents to Republican states such as Texas and Florida.
