Burnley are just three points from safety after a thumping 4-1 win over relegation rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The Blades created an xG of 2.59 compared to the Clarets’ 1.75 but struggled to find a way past Muric, who made 10 saves. McBurnie was twice denied by good stops from the Kosovo international in the first half before the visitors scored twice in two minutes. Bruun Larsen’s sliced effort from the left took a fortunate deflection off Bogle and rolled into the bottom-left corner before Assignon scored their second after a tricky run. Hamer got one back for the Blades with a fine right-footed finish, but Burnley scored twice to put the game beyond them and boost their chances of survival. Foster scored from close range before Gudmundsson scored only 22 seconds after coming off the bench to give Kompany’s men all three points. Burnley have lost just one of their last seven Premier League outings and travel to Manchester United for their next match, with the Blades also visiting Old Trafford for their upcoming fixture. They are 10 points from safety with five games left. That’s all for today, goodbye.

Since a 1-0 win against Brentford, United are winless in seven home league games (drawing three and losing four), conceding at least twice in each match. Only twice before has a team conceded two or more goals in eight consecutive Premier League home games – Wolves in 2011-12 (11) and Norwich in 2019 (nine). The Blades are still creating plenty of opportunities to score, but they have no chance of winning if they keep conceding so many goals.

Burnley scored twice in two minutes near the end of the first half to gain a 2-0 lead over the Blades heading into half-time at Bramall Lane. The hosts had the best chances in the opening exchanges and should’ve taken the lead. McAtee’s inviting cross from the right found McBurnie. However, the striker’s first-time shot from close range was saved by Muric. Brereton’s header was also twice denied the opener by the goalkeeper, who kept out his header before blocking his one-on-one effort. McBurnie’s powerful drive was then tipped over by the Kosovo international before Burnley took a fortunate lead. The Blades have displayed a real defensive spirit in the opening exchanges and have made it difficult for Burnley to create any clear chances.

United’s McBurnie has been involved in eight goals in his last eight Premier League home games, scoring six and assisting twice. The only game in this run in which he hasn’t registered a goal or assist was in the Blades’ 6-0 defeat to Arsenal last month. Sheffield United vs Burnley
15:03
It will be interesting to see how the Blades and Burnley approach this battle at the bottom of the table. It might be a cagey start, with neither side wanting to make a mistake that could lead to a massive opening goal. However, both teams must push for a win to try and avoid relegation as a draw at this stage will probably not be enough.

United have lost just one of their last 20 home league games against Burnley (winning 14 and drawing five), going down 3-2 in December 2008. They’ve won both of their Premier League games against the Clarets at Bramall Lane. Both teams are on the pitch and are ready to get started.

Burnley make two alterations to the team that drew 1-1 with Brighton in their previous match. Muric retains his place after scoring an own goal, with O’Shea returning from a one-game suspension to replace Ekdal. A shuffle in players also means that forward Datro Fofana comes out for Taylor, who appears at left-back. Vitinho pushes up onto the wing, with Foster starting up front alongside Odobert.

Burnley have had a slight upturn in form and have only lost one of their last six Premier League fixtures, but Vincent Kompany will be thinking his side should have more points on the board after their previous two outings (winning one and losing one). It has been a period to forget for Arijanet Muric, who gifted Dominic Calvert-Lewin the winning goal in a 1-0 loss to fellow strugglers Everton before scoring a calamitous own goal to help Brighton claim a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor, with the Clarets ahead at the time. As a result, Burnley would’ve been right behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest but are instead six points from safety. A repeat of their 5-0 win over the Blades in the reverse fixture would boost confidence levels. However, anything else would make it difficult for them to escape relegation with just a handful of matches remaining, especially with three of the top seven and Forest left to play.
Sheffield United vs Burnley
14:30
The Blades’ winless run in the Premier League extended to eight games after a 2-0 loss to Brentford in previous last outing, with their last victory coming against relegation rivals Luton Town in February. Chris Wilder’s men did collect respectable draws against Bournemouth, Fulham and Chelsea. However, they must quickly turn one point into three to stand any chance of climbing off the bottom of the table and avoid an immediate return to the Championship. United are 10 points from safely with just six games remaining and face a Burnley side just four points and one place above them. It’s a must-win match for the Blades, who face trips to Manchester United and Newcastle United next.
