Seven signings for Trearddur Bay include North Wales football great and island goal machine – Grassroots North Wales | Championing Local Sport | Dave Jones Sportswriter

A 40-goal star from last season and a Welsh Premier League legend are among the SEVEN new signings announced by Trearddur Bay in the past few days.

Goal machine Kaine Bentley returns to Lon Isallt, while former Bangor City icon Sion Edwards joins former long-time team-mate Les Davies at the Anglesey club.

Other new recruits landing at the newly-promoted Tier 3 Ardal North West club are Luke Smith, Kian Hughes, Harri Jones, Anthony Marshall and Sean McCaffery. Dewi Thomas signed from Llangefni slightly earlier.

Trearddur Bay certainly don’t plan to let the grass grow under their feet as they prepare to launch themselves on a high-quality ANW, which includes fellow Anglesey teams Holyhead Hotspur, Llangefni Town and promoted Menai Bridge Tigers in 2024-25.

NEW SIGNINGS

Kaine Bentley

Twenty-year-old returns to Trearddur Bay, where he last played in 2022-23, scoring 17 goals in a North Wales Coast West Division One title-winning side..
Prior to that, he was a standout performer at Holyhead Town.
Last season, Bentley signed for Gwalchmai, where he netted a magnificent 40 goals including one in his team’s 3-1 NWCFA Intermediate Cup final victory over Penrhyndeudraeth.
He also made a great impression for the silver-medal winning Ynys Môn football team in the 2023 Island Games in Guernsey, scoring in a 5-1 victory over Falkland Islands.

Sion Edwards

The 36-year-old North Wales football legend needs no introduction.
Early last season, Edwards announced he was retiring after a 20-year stint in senior football, but continued to make himself occasionally available for Bangor 1876.
Now he has decided to commit to Trearddur Bay for 2024-25.
Sion will best be remembered for his major role in the Bangor City ‘Nevillution’, the amazing period between 2007-11 when led by manager Neville Powell, the Citizens won three Welsh Cups in succession, lifted the Welsh Premier title and experienced success in Europe.
Bangor lad Sion was a product of the renowned Bangor-area Penrhosgarnedd youth system before gaining reserve team experience at Wrexham.
Released from the Racecourse in 2006, he had a spell at Cemaes Bay before joining Bangor City that same year.
Edwards went on to become a Citizens legend, making 231 Welsh Premier starts (plus 92 substitute appearances) and netting 58 goals for the club. Sion also made 13 appearances in Europe for the all-blues.
The left-sided specialist joined Rhyl on loan in 2016-17 before returning to Bangor City in summer 2017.
Sion was unable to command a regular place in the ensuing Welsh Premier campaign and left the club in November 2017 to join Porthmadog.
After two seasons at Y Traeth he moved to Colwyn Bay before signing for Bangor 1876 in November 2021.

Luke Smith

Began last season at Porthmadog before moving to North Wales Coast League East Division One champions Bow.
Trearddur Bay said: “We’re delighted to secure the signature of Luke Smith, who has turned down numerous offers from clubs in the tier 2 Cymru North to join us.
“Luke has experience with both Llandudno and Porthmadog at a higher level, and the tough tackling defender/midfielder will be a strong addition to the squad.”

Kian Hughes

Former Connah’s Quay Nomads academy player who has tier 2 experience at Porthmadog. A creative player who is versatile in a number of positions, he will add quality to the group.

Harri Jones

Trearddur Bay said: “We heard big things about him last season and we saw why straight away in his first session last week. Wants to get the ball before the striker, strong, very good in the air and with the ball at his feet. At 17 he’s a massive talent. Looking forward to watching him progress with us at the Bay.”

Anthony Marshall

Former Welsh under-18 international has tier 2 experience with Llandudno and Conwy Borough.
A commanding central defender with excellent leadership qualities, Ant will be a huge addition to the squad.

Sean McCaffery

A powerful midfielder with great technical ability who worked with Bay management coach Warren Gibbs at Conwy. Likes to get forward and score goals from midfield.
Twenty-five year-old has spent most of his career at Conwy Borough, but has also had spells with Llandudno.

Also coming on board for the management team at Lon Isallt is MARTYN JONES, a former Penmaenmawr Phoenix manager and coaching chief at Conwy Borough and Llandudno FC academy.

Definitely remaining with Trearddur Bay for 2024-25 are Morgan Rowlands, Casey Gregg and Coby Doutch.

And more good news: all of the cup-winning Development Squad players have now committed to the club for 2024-25.
