Scotland 3 Norway 2 LIVE as countdown’s on for Euro 2024 party

When Scotland have been involved in dead rubber final qualifying fixtures in recent years, it’s usually because another chance to reach a major tournament has passed us by.

But that is all in the past. Tonight, the Tartan Army are in the incredibly unusual situation of a pressure-free night at Hampden Park because we’ve already stamped our passport for Euro 2024.

Fans have turned up on so many dreary nights in Mount Florida thinking about what could have been. Watching fans of rival nations getting ready for the big one.

Not this time. Now it’s OUR turn to party and visitors Norway are the ones feeling envious of us. And nobody deserves it more than the loyal Scotland fans who had to suffer years of the national team being in the doldrums.

Steve Clarke has made it all possible and his squad of heroes who will round off an unbelievable Group A campaign which has seen them beat Spain for the first time in 40 years and lose just one game in the return against the giants in Seville.

And while qualification has been secured there is one thing that still has to be decided ahead of Germany next summer and that is what pot Scotland will be in for next month’s draw in Hamburg.

A a win by a couple of goals or a single goal if we score four or more would see us jump up to the second seeds.

Scotland starting XI: Clark, Patterson, Hendry, McKenna, Taylor, McTominay, McGregor, Armstrong, McGinn, McLean, Brown. Subs: McCrorie, Kelly, Ralston, Doig, Cooper, Shankland, Dykes, Christie, Gilmour, Porteous, Ferguson, Jack

Join us for all the action LIVE!

Gazing

Norway’s dangerous flurry is being watched with keen interest from the subs who abandon their warm up to chit-chat and watch on.

Not much of a chance for many to climb off the bench with less than ten to play.

Coming to a close

10 minutes left for Scotland to see out a double over Norway.

The second half has been the solid side we’ve come to expect from Clarke’s men.

But Clark between the sticks has been forced into another smart stop as they look to take some reward from their finale.

McGinn exits to applause

Hopefully that isn’t too bad for McGinn.

He was being readied to come off anyway and is jogging off after holding his knee, as Ryan Jack comes on for him.

Another big-impact shift from the stand-in skipper.

Bad to worse for Kvaradona

It’s gone from bad to worse for Kvaradona and Co.

The Spaniards are now 3-1 ahead after an own goal by Lochosvilli.

Beaming Broony

Scott Brown takes in the action just in front of the press box and might remember back to ten years ago this night when we beat Norway in friendly action in Molde. The midfielder netted in that 1-0 win.

Totally different kettle of fish for the man who left the Cods last month. He will be watching with a keen eye as he weighs up his next move in management.

Making a fuss

Dykes instantly comes on to try and create some havoc.

He scampers over to the left-hand side to try and bring the ball down but can’t quite manage it, although Scotland win a free-kick in their own half.

A chance to relieve any lingering pressure.

No conferring

Stale Solbakken hasn’t conferred with his Norwegian bench at all in this second half.

While Scotland’s bench are in constant communication with instructions being passed back and forth between Carver and Clarke.

It’s a stark contrast but Stale might just be watching his stale side.

Clarke looks to the bench

First subs of the night for Scotland.

Dykes, Ferguson and Christie are making their way onto the park for the final 20 minutes.

Armstrong, Brown and McLean make way.

Clearing lines

Ryerson’s ball into the box is a good one but it’s well cleared by the Scotland backline.

Now they take their turn to keep the ball and look to pick off Norway when they can.

Triple it up

Steve Clarke is preparing a triple sub here and the boss is not being shy of his attacking intent with Dykes, Ferguson and Christie getting ready.

Attacking pushes

It doesn’t amount to watch but Norway keep the ball.

Berge runs it back into Scotland territory and wins the corner but again, it’s cleared.

Chase yerself Ferran

Ferran Torres has put Spain ahead and in the driving seat to top the group.

It’s not by any stretch of the imagination dampening things here at Hampden. The fans are in full voice after that superb goal from Armstrong.

Looking for instant reply

Norway go looking for an immediate response to falling behind by pushing up the park.

It’s McGinn who is left sliding to put in a last-ditch challenge but he’s picked up a sore one doing so, albeit he’s back up on his feet.

Corner Norway.

The hard yards

Scotland were backed in to the corner and seconds later Armstrong fired home.

It’s possibly one of the best worked goals you’ll see from this Scotland side as McGinn and the scorer link-up effortlessly to smash the Norwegians.

Steve Clarke was deep in discussion with his bench as that one went in but he’s full on delighted with the attacking product.

Armstrong!

Terrific roll back into the box by McGinn finds Armstrong again and this time he makes no mistake.

It’s cool calm and composed into the corner and Scotland have the lead for the first time tonight!

Stopping danger

Clark gathers the ball after a ball across the box looked dangerous.

This time it’s down the left and the Hearts stopper prevents the situation from getting out of hand.

Attempting the audacious

That would have been spectacular from Armstrong but it comes to nothing.

Good work by Brown as he lays the ball off to McGinn, who finds his midfield pal.

His acrobatic shot is wide but a decent effort out of nothing.

Contemplative Clarke

Scotland manager Steve Clarke(Image: SNS Group)

Steve Clarke was back out of the tunnel quick sharp for the second half and watched on like the great observor before the 45 minute bonanza got underway again.

A contemplative gaffer might now be thinking primarily about how we’re going to tackle some of the continent’s biggest next summer.

Stop-start

Armstrong gets the chance this time to fizz a ball in but again it comes to nothing.

This one is getting a bit messy with no real flow to the game as fouls and set-pieces break things up.

Backing Brown

Jacob Brown hasn’t set the first half alight for Scotland but a moment of courage earns the approval of the packed stadium.

Steve Clarke also watches on with a grin as the Luton attacker gets his side on the attack but moments later he’s seen flying in to a challenge.

Up and down for sure.

Putting a roadblock up

Good defensive work by Armstrong stops Norway.

It looks as if an attack on the flanks is in the works but the midfielder gets across with a last-ditch tackle. Strong stuff.

Corner chance

Scotland get the ball back and McTominay wins the chance to fizz another dangerous corner in.

But his low cross is harmless and instantly cleared but Scotland keep the ball in the opposition half.

Nervy

A nervy moment sees Callum McGregor hold up his hands for a loose pass that nearly sent Norway in.

Nathan Patterson as he has done throughout the first half sweeps up with no concerns but there’s a quick moment to apologise to his countryman.

RESTART! Scotland 2 Norway 2

John McGinn celebrates(Image: SNS Group)

We are back underway at Hampden with McGregor getting things rolling.

And any attacking notion is instantly stopped as Norway win a free-kick.

Roar again

Another massive roar follows a half-time sing-song and the final 45 minutes of the Euro qualifying campaign are about to get underway.

Not hitting the panic button

Willie Miller has liked the fighting spirit shown by Scotland.

Not at their best and put behind twice, they have responded to both goals by levelling the scoring.

And the former defender has told Sportsound of his delight.

The fans will be enjoying what they are seeing. Scotland are showing very good resilience to come back from behind twice. They are not panicking, they are sticking to the game plan and they are reaping the rewards.

HALF-TIME! Scotland 2 Norway 2

John McGinn scores a penalty(Image: SNS Group)

Take a breath, folks…

A topsy-turvy first half is at its end, in which Scotland’s poor performance overall has not been overly punished.

They may have conceded two but a McGinn penalty and an own goal has them level. Clarke won’t be happy with the overall performance though.

Urgh

Stale Solbakken doesn’t seem to agree with the minute added on as he shakes his head on the touchline.

A whirlwind first half is about to come to an end.

Goal-saving block

That is pretty incredible from Patterson.

Again Norway cut Scotland’s left-side of defence open and a stunning block on the line denies Donnum a second on the night.

Huge let-off and the miss of key defenders is proving more and more apparent.

McKenna denied

McKenna is head in hands after being deemed to have made a foul up the park.

His jersey looked to have been pulled but the decision goes against him.

Seemed an odd one on initial viewing.

Another pop

Berge stings Clark’s palms as the Hearts goalkeeper is made to work.

Good play by Norway allows him a free pop at goal from 18 yards but it’s straight at him.

How he got into that position will irk Clarke though.

Powerful drive

Berg goes close with his effort from the deadball and Clark needs to watch it closely.

The midfielder sails it high but narrowly wide in a poweful attempt.

There’s certainly been worse efforts and it was one that had Scotland worried for a second.

And in Spain…

It’s not the worst news for Scotland fans with the result in Spain either.

Luis de la Fuente’s men are currently level with Georgia. Robin Le Normand opened the scoring early on before the away side found a response through Kvaratskhelia.

We’re not tempting fate, but…

Set-piece chance

Norway move up the park as they look for another swift response to a goal that’s really of their own doing.

They win a free-kick in the final third after a McKenna foul, and are in a good position to either cross or shoot.

Alive and kickin’

And that brought Hampden back to its feet from nowhere with Scotland level.

It wasn’t super clear on first viewing who can take the credit but it looks like Kenny McLean fancies getting the plaudits as he races over to the touchline before the restart to claim it was his to Clarke and Carver.

The goal seems to officially go down as an OG from Ostigard who got away with one with his handball moments prior.

GOAL! Scotland 2 Norway 2

Leo Ostigard scores an own goal(Image: SNS Group)

And Scotland are back in it!

It’s not about how they go in, as long as they do, and this is the mantra here.

Ostigard turns the ball into his own net after a powerful low corner cannons off him and into the net. Some half this!

Attempt in vain

The main man for goals goes hunting his eighth strike of the campaign but a deflection denies him.

He darts at the defence before McTominay’s effort is deflected behind. And his corner comes to nothing too.

A careful study

The subs such as Dykes and Cooper watch on attentively from the sidelines while doing their warm up.

The defender is so engrossed in the action the fourth official has to instruct him to head further down towards the corner flag to continue limbering up.

Any of the Scotland stars off the bench tonight won’t face an easy task.

Building up

McKenna trying to calm things at the back, with Patterson, McGregor and McTominay all making passes.

They work into the final third but McGinn’s tumble doesn’t earn a foul.

Goal creates confusion

The penalty seemed to calm Scotland down a touch but another Norway goal has them camped in their own half.

Even without Haaland up front, the visitors are carving up openings. Clarke’s team struggling to string four or five passes together.

Tailored to it

A lot of Norway’s play is focusing on the left of Scotland’s defence and it’s an area Stale Solkbakken seems to want to exploit.

Both goals have come from that wing with balls in to the area as Greg Taylor takes the spot skipper Andy Robertson would normally house.

It’s a clear plan from the visitors and despite some cruel deflections they’re making the most of it with Bobb and Larsen linking up.

Pressing and probing

Norway come again but this time down the left-hand side, rather than the right both goals have come from.

They eventually switch it over that side but Berge can’t force an opening.

Scotland need to gather themselves a bit here.

A Hampden mess

Norway celebrate their second goal(Image: SNS Group)

A rotten goal to lose sees Zander Clark even more frustrated.

The shot-stopper couldn’t get much on that as it fizzed across his goal but again a deflection plays it part in giving Norway the advantage.

It agonsingly rolls along the line and in and the Scotland players cut frustrated figures inside the box.

GOAL! Scotland 1 Norway 2

It’s a second for the visitors!

Clark won’t want to watch that one back as a ball into his six-yard area is met by Norway, and he fails to get enough on it as it bobbles over him and beyond him.

Scotland looked to have recovered from a poor start but it’s back to square one.

Eye-catching switch

Armstrong gets on the ball and fizzes a lovely ball across to Taylor.

The defender’s cross is straight at the keeper but it looked like Norway’s defence was about to be carved up by one pass.

Haaland’s in his bed

A playful dig at the Norwegian show-stopper who isn’t in action tonight as the Scotland fans chant ‘We’re having a party and Haaland’s in his bed’.

Not sure the Man City titan will enjoy that one if he’s watching.

Coming alive

(Image: SNS Group)

Scotland look a bit more alive after that penalty shout.

A nice bit of pressure pens Norway in their own half and Jacob Brown is being tasked with leading from the front.

Ajer meanwhile picks up a booking.

GOAL! Scotland 1 Norway 1

John McGinn scores a penalty(Image: SNS Group)

McGinn tucks it away!

It’s a much-needed response from McGinn and co, rolling the ball low with ease.

That’s got Hampden rocking!

VA-ClaRke

Steve Clarke is looking straight at VAR to check that one but the fans in the stands tell the gaffer its a stonewaller.

Here we go…

Penalty Scotland!

And the resulting set-piece gives Scotland a spot-kick chance.

McGregor’s shot comes off a stray hand and it’s a chance from 12 yards for McGinn!
