School CLOSED and homes without water – latest updates

Homes have been left without water and a school has been forced to close due to an issue in Tameside. United Utilities says its engineers are working to fix the problem affecting the M43 postcode area, in Droylsden.

Residents have commented on social media to say they are without water in areas near Greenside Lane this morning (December 8). Greenside Primary School has also been forced to close as the water supply is turned off, with an email sent to parents, seen by the Manchester Evening News.




United Utilities first reported an issue in the M43 area at 4.18am today. An update online added: “A leak has been spotted and reported to us on junction of Greenside Lane and Springfield Road and we can confirm this to be the cause of no water or low pressure in your area.

“We’re on with it and our team will be in the area as soon as possible to get this fixed. Thank you for your patience, we hope to have things back to normal as soon as possible.”

In a further update, the company said it would be putting ‘temporary measures’ in place to provide water while work takes place. United Utilities has been approached for comment.

School closed

In a letter to parents, seen by the Manchester Evening News, Greenside Primary School confirmed it had to close this morning due to the issue.

Other Droylsden schools are unaffected.

‘Temporary measures’

A further update states measures a being put in place to make sure people have water supply.

It says:

“So that we can keep your supply on whilst we complete the repair, we’ve put some temporary measures in place.

“We’ll be providing water to you from a different area and our water tankers will be pumping additional supply into the network.

“This may mean your water pressure is lower than normal or you may notice fluctuations during peak times.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this is causing.”

‘Leak’ causing issues

Residents have reported being without water in parts of Droylsden, Tameside, this morning.

Greenside Primary School has had to close for the day due to the issue.
