Salma Hayek is the latest star to express her grief at the death of Matthew Perry who passed away on Saturday at the age of 54.
The Oscar nominee co-starred with the late star in the 1997 the romantic comedy Fools Rush In as a couple who get pregnant and then married after a one-night stand.
In her tribute to the late Friends star Monday, she wrote, ‘Two days ago, I woke up to the shocking news that Matthew Perry is no longer with us,’ adding, ‘It’s taken me a couple of days to process this profound sadness.’
‘There is a special bond that happens when you share dreams with someone, and together you work towards them. I was very moved last year when Matthew shared on his Instagram stories how much he loved Fools Rush In, and how he thought that that film we did together was probably his best movie.
In the photo carousel, Salma shared a grab from the Q&A in which, when asked about his favorite role, Matthew answered, ‘I did a movie called Fools Rush In with @salmahayek – that was probably my best movie. ‘
The two stayed friends after starring together and she shared, ‘Throughout the years, he and I found ourselves reminiscing about that meaningful time in our lives with a deep sense of nostalgia and gratitude.’
She closed with a heartfelt goodbye writing, ‘My friend, you are gone much too soon, but I will continue to cherish your silliness, your perseverance, and your lovely heart.
‘Farewell, sweet Matthew, we will never forget you.’
Friends co-stars Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, have not yet released a statement.
Friends co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin Bright released a statement to CNN, saying they were ‘shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing.’
‘It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives.’
The statement described the comic star as ‘a brilliant talent.’
‘It’s a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words. From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us.’
‘We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment – not just to his work, but in life as well. He was always the funniest person in the room. More than that, he was the sweetest, with a giving and selfless heart…’ they penned before making a reference to the way the titled Friends episodes, ‘This truly is The One Where Our Hearts Are Broken.’
Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in the hot tub at this home in Los Angeles, Saturday afternoon according to law enforcement sources sited by the Los Angeles Times.
The actor was open about his struggle with drugs and alcohol in his book Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.
An autopsy has been conducted, according to CNN, but the results of toxicology reports are needed in order to determine the cause of death.
The reports could take several weeks to complete, the medical examiner’s office told the outlet.
On Sunday, grieving parents: father, John Bennett Perry, 82, his mother, Suzanne Morrison, and step-father, Dateline correspondent Keith Morrison, 76, issued a statement to People.
‘We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,’ the family said.
‘Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.’
