If you thought the recent N7 Day teaser trailer for the next Mass Effect was an indication the RPG might be somewhat close to release, you may want to think again. We already know BioWare has Dragon Age: Dreadwolf to launch on PS5 first, but according to Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb, the game is so far out that it may not release until 2029.
Referencing conversations with sources on Wednesday’s episode of Game Mess Mornings, he explained: “This game is just nowhere near coming out. I was told when they revealed Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2018, this is similar in terms of timeline, where that was announced in 2018 and we’re not getting that game until maybe next year. So now do the math for that and we’re talking 2029 for Mass Effect.”
Grubb then goes on to say the video was made purely to satisfy an N7 Day reveal rather than hint at what the experience might actually entail; it’s a “proof of life,” GameSpot’s Tamoor Hussain explains. All the trailer shows is a character in some sort of N7 armour walking down a hallway, then turning to look at the camera and proceeding out a door.
The follow-up to Mass Effect Andromeda was announced three years ago, and since then, has only been shown in small teaser trailers much like Tuesday’s video drop. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is the next RPG that BioWare plans to put out, but it’s been pushed back time and time again, with the latest suggestions placing it in summer 2024 at the earliest. It was revealed towards the start of this year that the Mass Effect team will help finish Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, so it’s up in the air how far along the space RPG really is.
