Capcom’s upcoming open world RPG, Dragon’s Dogma 2, is out 26th March on PS5, with a final round of preview coverage going on currently. While impressions seem positive for the most part, there is a potentially troubling rumour going around regarding the game’s performance: that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will run at just 30 frames-per-second on PS5 and, worse still, a Performance mode is not currently planned.
Frame rate and performance are subjective to an extent, but there’s no doubt that PS5 players have come to expect a 60fps option in this day and age. A rumour appears to have picked up steam overnight, one that suggests that Capcom’s first $70 title will instead target 30fps on PS5, spurred on by various factors such as released PC specs.
The source is an unnamed Japanese insider, first reported by PCFocus, who claims that a 60fps Performance mode is not planned for the game on PS5. Gaming tech site Tech4Gamers then compared and contrasted the game’s recently released PC specs with what the PS5 has under the hood. Capcom suggests a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU for PC players expecting 30fps, which Tech4Gamers says is roughly equivalent, if not better, than the CPU in your PS5.
Add that to the fact that Capcom has been surprisingly quiet about console performance, and we’re starting to grow a little concerned at this point. Companies generally like to unveil things like Performance and Resolution options as a part of the pre-release hype cycle, especially more action-heavy offerings like DD2.
Additionally, a preview from IGN Japan appears to have confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will feature just a single save slot, which both manual and auto saves must compete for. This was how things worked in the original, and its Dark Arisen re-release, so it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to veterans, but it seems worth noting for newcomers.
