Rod Stewart’s appearance distracts as fans ‘disappointed’ by BBC performance | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Sir Rod Stewart’s appearance left BBC viewers distracted on Sunday night as he took to the stage to perform on Jools’ Annual Hootenanny. The Maggie May hitmaker donned a black and gold striped suit, which he paired with a glittery gold tie.

Before he began to sing, Jools told the audience and viewers at home that it was Sir Rod’s first time performing on the show. However, as the singer began to perform, viewers took to social media to comment on his suit with many likening it to the one Beetlejuice wore in the film.

And while some fans were blown away by Sir Rod’s performance, others admitted to feeling “disappointed”. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, @KillianJ67 asked: “Why is Rod Stewart dressed as Beetlejuice? #Hootenanny.”

“Who wore it better? Rod Stewart on #Hootenanny or Michael Keating as #Beetlejuice?” @moloneyrobert quizzed as @BloodAndBeers penned: “I said “Beetlejuice” three times and Rod Stewart appeared.”

@MariaLCooney went on: “Rod Stewart is BeetleJuice on Jools Holland #Hootenanny,” while @JayMcCreary added: “Rod Stewart channeling his inner Beetlejuice on #Hootenanny.”

Commenting on the singer’s performance, @AndyGJBurge voiced: “Rod can still sing but apart from Jools and the band, the women owned #Hootenanny this year ..” (sic)

@ian_nichol15 complained: “So disappointed by @rodstewart performance on @BBCLater #Hootenanny We don’t want the big band sound we want the hits from Rod Stewart and the Faces, not the c**p we heard!” (sic)

“Rod Stewart ruining #Hootenanny,” @TonyTown67 fumed as @starchanton pointed out: Rod Stewart still has the pipes to deliver a song, but only if it’s the right song, and the stuff he’s done on this #Hootenanny is COMPLETELY wrong for his voice.”

However, not everyone had the same opinions as @LondonChrisQPR praised: “#hootenanny enjoyed the Dad dancing (including the women) on Hootenanny tonight. A great show as usual, Sir Rod on top form.” (sic)

During one segment, Jools sat down with Sir Rod and asked him whether he makes New Year’s resolutions.

“No, I am very weak spirited so I don’t make resolutions,” Sir Rod admitted as he opened up about what he is looking forward to in 2024.

“Well making music with you and going out on tour and our new album. Peace in the MIddle East maybe and up the Ukrainians. Peace and love.”

Sir Rod wasn’t the only star to perform as he was also joined by the Sugababes, Raye, Olivia Dean and Joss Stone.

As well as The Mary Wallopers, Muireann Bradley, Ruby Turner, and the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards.

Jools’ Annual Hootenanny is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
