A 19-year-old man was arrested in western Mexico after he was spotted walking in broad daylight holding his sister’s head.
The suspect, identified as Sebastián, allegedly murdered Julieta, 26, in the municipality of Quiroga on Saturday, the Michoacán state prosecutor’s office said.
Bystanders saw Sebastián walking with Julieta’s head near a government-run clinic and called the police.
Michoacán State Police agents found the teenager steps away from the clinic and arrested him without incident and confiscated a rifle that he was carrying.
Authorities found Julieta’s naked corpse lying on the ground at gas station about 820 feet away from the clinic.
The head was located several feet away from the body.
Sebastián is currently being held by the Michoacán state prosecutor’s office while he is investigated for the alleged crime.
As of Monday, authorities had not said why Sebastián murdered his sister and if any other people were involved.
The gruesome finding was reminiscent of the discovery cops in the State of Mexico municipality of San Mateo Atenco made when they arrested Lev Norman carrying the head of Lucero Yazmin inside a backpack in October 2022.
The suspect was walking along an avenue with his body covered in blood when residents called the police.
The man was under the influence of drugs and was arrested and taken to a police station.
He confessed to the crime and provided the location of Yazmin’s body.
