Leeds United continued their impressive home form, with an important 2-1 win against Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road.

Leeds United started the better of the two teams. After some neat passing on the edge of the box, Crysencio Summerville played Georginio Rutter through on goal. Before unleashing his shot, the striker was brought to the ground, but the referee turned down the penalty appeals.

The home side had another huge chance shortly after. Dan James burst past the Argyle defence and clipped a cross towards the back post, but a last-ditch block denied the inform Summerville from getting on the end of it.

In the 20th minute, the Whites took the lead! Georginio drove into the box, but he was stopped in his tracks and Argyle attempted to clear their line, but the ball only went as far as Dan James on the edge of the box. He took a touch and expertly curled his effort into the top corner!

Leeds then had the ball in the back of the net for a second time minutes later! Joel Piroe won the ball back high up in the Plymouth half. He played a smart exchange with Summerville before slotting his effort past Michael Cooper and into the back of the net, for his sixth of the season!

Before the break, Geoginio Rutter picked up a loose pass from the Argyle defence and drove the ball into the box before unleashing a left-footed strike that Cooper palmed away.

Leeds had been on top for much of the half and it could have been more going into the dressing room, but an offside flag denied Summerville, who had finished well inside the box.

HALF TIME: Leeds United 2-0 Plymouth Argyle

Both sides came out for the second half unchanged and the pattern of play didn’t change either. Summerville tricked his way down the left-hand side before cutting a pass back to Piroe, who swivelled and unleashed a shot which was saved by the visiting keeper.

Georginio had another chance of his own to add a third. Summerville danced past the Argyle defence once again, he played a pass into Georginio who hit his close-range effort narrowly over the bar.

The chances for Daniel Farke’s side were flowing in the second half. A smart turn from Georginio to lose his defender saw him clip a cross toward Piroe, who narrowly glanced his header over the bar.

A great chance came for second half substitute Jaidon Anthony after he cut inside from the left, then curled a right-footed shot towards the far corner but Cooper pushed his effort behind in the Plymouth net.

Against the run of play, Argyle pulled one back. Luke Cundle drove down the right wing before drilling a low cross that found Ben Waine at the back post, to tap it home from close range.

The goal set up a nervy finish at Elland Road, but it was to be the last big piece of action and the referee blew the final whistle, meaning the home side claimed another three points at Elland Road.
