Red Bull’s rebranded second Formula 1 team has revealed its 2024 challenger, the first under its new ‘Visa Cash App RB’ identity.
The team previously known as AlphaTauri and Toro Rosso, issued images of its VCARB 01 2024 car in parallel with a private launch event in Las Vegas.
RB has adopted a blue and white livery, not so dissimilar from the fan-favourite liveries used in the final years of its Toro Rosso guise from 2017 to 2019.
The 2024 RB marks a closer collaboration with Red Bull, something that will only add fuel to complaints from rivals that began increasing in volume in late 2023.
While the process is not complete yet, Red Bull’s decided to integrate its two teams more closely, with RB now in the process of moving into a new facility added to the Red Bull campus in Milton Keynes.
Red Bull’s second team has a new team boss for the first time in its F1 history as long-serving team principal Franz Tost has stepped down, and been replaced by Laurent Mekies who joins from Ferrari.
Mekies will ultimately report to ex-FIA man Peter Bayer, and he’s got a host of new signings alongside him in the new senior tech team.
Ex-FIA technical director Tim Goss has joined as chief technical officer, Guillaume Cattelani moves across from Red Bull to be deputy technical director, while the extremely experienced Alan Permane has been recruited following his surprise mid-2023 departure from Alpine, where he had worked for decades across its various identities dating back to its Benetton days.
RB’s driver line-up will be identical to the one that brought AlphaTauri’s existence to a close at the end of last year.
Daniel Ricciardo’s hoping to use 2024 as a platform to convince Red Bull he should be Max Verstappen’s team-mate again, while Yuki Tsunoda’s entering his fourth F1 season and facing an uncertain future beyond that.
