Drivers on the M6 were warned of delays due to a police incident. Eye-witnesses said police cars sustained damage after ‘boxing in’ a car on the northbound carriageway close to junction 20.
One StokeonTrentLive reader said: “There are four police cars and two undercover ones. They’ve now boxed in a car. It looks like it was a high speed chase. There’s damage to all the police cars.”
Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: “There are three lanes closed and very slow traffic due to police incident on M6 Thelwall Viaduct northbound from junction 20 at the Lymm Interchange to junction 21. Lanes one, two and three of four are closed.”

Police issue statement
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 3.30pm on Wednesday 8 November, officers attempted to stop a vehicle on the A49 near Stretton, Warrington. The vehicle, a black BMW convertible, failed to stop and made off onto the M56 and then onto the M6.
“Police subsequently stopped the vehicle near to junction 20 of the M6 northbound and the driver, a 33-year-old man from Manchester, has been arrested for a number of offences.”
