Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough evacuated due to ‘security threat’

A Cambridgeshire shopping centre was evacuated due to a ‘security threat’ today (Thursday, December 28). Police and security staff evacuated Queensgate shopping centre in Peterborough.

Police were first called to the scene at around 10.30am and remained on the scene for the rest of the morning. Work is underway to establish the cause of the threat.




A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “We were contacted by a store manager at Queensgate Shopping Centre at about 10.30am this morning (Wednesday) reporting contact about a security threat to their store today.

“A decision has been made by Queensgate security to evacuate the centre as a precaution. Our officers are currently at the scene to assist security staff with the evacuation, and work is ongoing to establish further detail about the threat and anyone involved.”

The shopping centre reopened at around 1pm. A spokesperson for Queensgate said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but the safety of our customers and staff working at the centre is our priority.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but the safety of our customers and staff working at the centre is our priority.”

Bus services running as normal

Buses are running as normal from the shopping centre despite the incident.

Only the centre is currently affected.
