Person taken to hospital after ‘accident’ sparks railway line closure and cancellation of services

One person has been taken to hospital following an ‘accident’ in Saltburn.

Emergency services were called to Marske Road on Sunday afternoon after reports of an incident. Northern confirmed that lines between Redcar Central and Saltburn were blocked at the time – with train services running to and from the stations cancelled.

The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that it sent three ambulance crews and one clinical team leader to the scene, taking one person to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough. Images taken from the scene show at least two fire engines and one ambulance present.

The nature of this incident – or any potential injuries – is currently unknown.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, train service Northern said: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Redcar Central and Saltburn, all lines are blocked. Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled.” It was later confirmed, shortly after 3pm, that all lines were back open.
