Pep Guardiola reassures Man City fans by revealing he could sign a new contract in the wake of Jurgen Klopp’s shock Liverpool exit announcement… as the Spaniard insists he still has the energy to coach at the top level

Pep Guardiola has once more opened up the prospect of signing a new deal with Manchester City following his side’s FA Cup win at Tottenham.

On the day his adversary Jurgen Klopp revealed he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, Guardiola – whose side defeated Spurs courtesy of Nathan Ake’s late goal – says he could extend his stay at the Etihad.

When asked whether he still has the energy to manage at the top-level following Klopp’s news, the Spaniard, whose current deal expires at the end of next season, said: ‘I’m fine. There’s still one more year, I want to do it – and maybe I will extend. I try to manage.

‘What we did last season, we have to do more and more now – it’s not going to happen. One step at a time.

‘I see my team every single day and the team is there. They still argue between each other. The competition in training. They want to win. The focus they have, How they talk. How they communicate. How they celebrate.

Pep Guardiola revealed he may sign a new Man City deal, with his contract expiring next year

‘Of course we are going to lose games but I have the duty to see how we perform. Even I’m surprised at my players because even after all they have done they are still there. That makes me feel so proud to be part of this club.’

Guardiola will become the only manager to have won the Premier League title when Klopp departs, but the City chief added: ‘There will be another one, always. Hopefully [in] many years I will leave here but my time here Liverpool have been the one. At Anfield many memories to tell for many reason it is not necessary to tell because everyone knows it.’

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou refused to blame the referee for his side’s loss, despite goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario claiming he was fouled by Ruben Dias in the lead up to Ake’s’ goal.

Guardiola also insisted he was ‘so proud to be part of the club’ after City beat Tottenham 1-0

‘The referee had a good look at so we have to accept it,’ said the Aussie.

‘We were just working as hard as possible to stay in the game and that wasn’t going to be enough tonight.’
