Passenger train evacuated in Cambridgeshire after firefighters called to blaze

A passenger train was evacuated following a fire in Cambridgeshire on Sunday (May 5). Firefighters were called to the train on the railway near St Neots at around 6.30pm.

No one was injured as a result of the incident. The fire was in one of the train’s coaches.




A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Our Control was alerted to an incident involving a train near St Neots station at around 6.30pm this evening. Crews from St Neots, Gamlingay and Huntingdon attended the incident.

“Passengers were safely evacuated from the train and no injuries were reported. Working with rail staff they located a fire in one of the coaches and quickly extinguished it. The crews returned to their stations by 7.45pm.”

National Rail reported disruption to railway services in Cambridgeshire as a result of the blaze. The cause of the fire has not been released at this stage.
