Overwatch 2 players rejoice as S9 patch finally kills “Pharmercy”

Overwatch 2 players have rejoiced after the changes and reworks made in Season 9 have finally killed the infamous “Pharmercy” combo.

Season 9 of Overwatch 2 has made some of the biggest changes to the hero shooter since its launch. From a massive overhaul to competitive, including a new rank called Champion, to changes to healing and health pools across the board, the fundamentals of the hero shooter have changed significantly.

Part of these changes also came in the form of reworks for several characters, with DPS hero Pharah receiving a bunch of changes including a new ability. This rework should allow Pharah to make more individual plays, allowing her to quickly cover ground and be more mobile in the air.

Of course, this leaves her partner in flight Mercy in the dust, as players have been claiming that the rework has killed the infamous “Pharmercy” combo.

With her increased skyward mobility, it makes it tough for Mercy to keep up with the new speed Pharah has, severely dampening the efficiency of the pair. Despite the death of the Pharah Mercy combo, players are actually rejoicing that the oppressive duo is now gone.

“In my limited experience playing it, Pharah’s new changes cause Mercy to have a hard time keeping up w/ her,” Skiesti, a Mercy content creator explained off the bat.

However, it appears some are happy Pharah is no longer as dependent on Mercy to perform.

“As a Pharah enjoyed, she is a lot more dependent on mercy than the other way around. Excited to be able to play her more without always needing a pocket,” one user argued.

The dynamic Pharah Mercy duo may be dead after the Season 9 rework.

Conversely, Mercy players were happy that they no longer were expected to pocket Pharah.

“Yipeeee…no more Pharmercy on my matches or Pharah players expecting me to Pocket them,” one player cheered.

“Pocketing Pharah was so annoying, going against it without an Echo/Hitscan player on your team was the worst. And Pharah players wanting you to be only with them was the worst thing about playing Mercy tbh,” another agreed.

With the slew of changes made in Season 9, it’s hard to say what Overwatch 2 may evolve into, but the devs are seemingly willing to make big changes to shake things up.
