East Midlands Railway passengers are being warned to expect “significant disruption” to services on Saturday morning (October 28) due to a broken down freight train. The operator first posted just after 8.30am that the break down was disrupting trains between Derby and Nottingham, as well as affecting services between Derby and East Midlands Parkway.
The operator says that the freight is currently unable to be moved at Trent East, warning: “This will cause our services significant disruption this morning. We have no estimate for when the train will be moved.”

East Midlands Railway has since said that the line between Derby and East Midlands Parkway has reopened, but there are delays of up to 60 minutes on the trains that were stood. Trains are also still unable to run between Derby and Nottingham in both directions.
The operator added: “As soon as the problem is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again.” It’s the second weekend in a row that trains have been affected, with Storm Babet leaving services unable to run last week in the wake of heavy rainfall. We will bring you updates on the latest disruption to services in our blog below.
