A North Wales developer that had expanded rapidly in recent years has gone into liquidation. Brenig Construction, in Mochdre, was set up in 2012 by Mark Parry and Howard Vaughan.
It grew quickly – securing valuable contracts with housing associations as well as private developments. In 2016 at the Fast Growth 50 awards, they were named as the fastest growing construction company in Wales and the fastest growing North Wales firm in any sector.
They said in 2021 they had a bulging order book with £60 million of work and plans for 300 new homes over four years. But like others in the sector they’ve been hit by spiralling costs after the pandemic – further fuelled by the war in Ukraine, and Brexit.

Now North Wales Live has been told that the firm has entered voluntary liquidation. Among the projects the company was currently undertaking was a housing development at Llwyn Eirin in Denbigh for Denbighshire council. This was nearing completion.
It is not the first major construction firm in North Wales to go under this year with RL Davies also going into administration after trading for more than 70 years.
Denbighshire council said: “Denbighshire County Council is saddened to learn that Brenig Construction, which has been the Principal Contractor for the Council’s housing development at Llwyn Eirin in Denbigh, has entered Voluntary Liquidation. The Council will be working with the Liquidator and seeking alternative arrangements to ensure that the development can be completed at the earliest opportunity.”
A Cartrefi Conwy spokesperson said: “We were sorry to learn that Brenig Construction have gone into voluntary liquidation and our thoughts are with all the staff who have been affected. It is a real shame because Brenig have clearly been affected by the prevailing economic climate and post-Covid challenges that are particular to the construction sector.
“Although we have worked with them on a number of projects in the past, they are not involved in any of our current or future schemes via Cartrefi Conwy, Creating Enterprise or Calon Homes.”
