Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced to bite his shirt as he dealt with the pain in his injured knee.

The Liverpool star will be sidelined for several weeks after picking up the issue in the FA Cup win at Arsenal. Alexander-Arnold was instrumental in the victory but was forced to nurse an injury that he sustained in the 68th minute as he battled with Gabriel Martinelli in his own box.

Alexander-Arnold took a few steps but was clearly limping before biting his kit to push through the pain barrier. The Liverpool right-back was able to play on for the duration and provided a stunning cross that led to the game’s opening goal as the Reds won 2-0.

The club have now confirmed that he had “hyperextended his knee” while defending and Liverpool’s assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed, after a scan, that the player would be sidelined.

He said: “First of all, some not-that-good news, Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game. So he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover. He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let’s see after that.

“He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was. Because this guy was decisive in all the games and was the one who created constantly for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility.” Lijnders also added: “We will really miss him”.
