Netflix viewers have been blown away by a ‘mysterious’ new British thriller, with fans labelling lead actress Rose Williams ‘captivating’.
The film, based in the quaint English countryside, has been available to watch on the steaming platform since November 1.
Directed by Nour Wazzi, Locked In features some familiar faces in its cast, including Famke Janssen, Rose Williams, Finn Cole and Anna Friel.
Adapted from SJ Watson’s novel Before I Go to Sleep, the mind-bending thriller tells the story of an ex-Hollywood actress Katherine (Famke Janssen) who is supposedly suffering with locked-in syndrome.
Katherine is not able to move a single inch of her body – only her eyes, after being hit by a car.
Thanks to her determined nurse, Nicky (Anna Friel), Katherine is able to communicate via blinking and a letter board.
In a Morse code style, the former actress blinks a sentence to her caretaker, alleging a murder has taken place.
Over the course of the suspense inducing thriller we catch glimpses of the actress’ life, shortly after she adopted her late best friend’s child, Lina (Rose Williams).
Lina is enamoured by the ex-thespian and swiftly becomes close friend’s with Katherine’s chronically ill step-son, Jamie (Finn Cole).
The pair eventually tie the knot to the displeasure of step-mother, Katherine, as her stepson is next in line to inherit his late father’s manor home – where all three reside.
The once close bond between Lina and Katherine quickly disintegrates, with the step-mother branding her a ‘golddigger’.
In a strange twist, the young woman also begins to develop a tight bond with her husband’s doctor, Dr Robert Lawrence (Alex Hassell).
Tragedies continue to strike Katherine’s family in a series of mind-warping events that is sure to leave viewers on the edge of their seats.
Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to praise the Netflix thriller, with some branding it ‘brilliant’, ‘excellent’, ‘twisted’ and a ’10/10′ film.
One impressed viewer wrote: ‘Locked in – Netflix very very good film. Good twist.’
Another chimed in: ‘Just watched locked in. Gripped from start to finish. Best film on Netflix in a long while.’
One fan said the film will leave you ‘completely paranoid,’ quipping: ‘Captivating from start to finish. Rose Williams is beautiful in this movie.’
‘Locked In devoured this morning,’ commented one viewer: ‘Very good film, we think we have guessed everything but no… it’s all right until the end’
After the positive reactions online, many other film fanatics were keen to get watching the film.
One said: ‘Starting new film on Netflix called #lockedin and it has Anna Friel, so I already know it’s going to be a banger!’
While another eager film buff added: ‘Wow, “Locked In” sounds like a thrilling and mysterious psychological horror film. I’m excited to see Rose Williams’ impressive performance as Alice.’
Another thriller, adapted from the video game, Five Nights At Freddy’s was recently on the receiving end of positive feedback from fans.
Audiences went wild for the adaptation of the game series – originally created by Scott Cawthon in 2014.
The movie sees security guard Matt Schmidt, taking up his new role at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.
However, during his first shift at the formerly popular 80’s restaurant, Schmidt soon realises getting through the night won’t be an easy task.
His spooky adventure is made even more challenging, as his 10-year-old sister Abby (Piper Rubio) tags along, as the security guard dives further into the unsolved disappearance of his brother.
One user penned: ‘#FiveNightsAtFreddys leaps above its flaws to deliver a practically perfect; satisfying, fun & thrill worthy good time at the movies.
‘Hutcherson is great! & Matthew Lillard’s Afton is FANTASTIC with ‘Stu Macher’ vibes appropriately sprinkled across his performance. #FNAFMovie’
Another added: ‘I am actually looking forward to this one Didn’t think it would be, but it makes for a good horror movie. Those robots in chuckee cheese were very unsettling.’
