Netflix fans have hailed a ‘frightening’ new horror movie, they claimed the gory film has unlocked a new fear of chainsaws.
Haunt, starring Faking It’s Katie Stevens as Harper, is jam-packed with terrifying clowns, extreme violence and terrifying torture scenes.
The 2019 hit, which also stars Kong: Skull Island’s Will Brittain as Nathan, was released on the streaming platform this week and fans are already dubbing it 10/10.
Scott Beck’s hit follows a group of friends who encounter a haunted house operated by people wearing clown, ghost, witch, vampire, vevil, and zombie masks.
Inside the attraction, the six friends – Evan, (Andrew Lewis Caldwell) Nathan, Harper, Bailey (Lauryn Alisa McClain), Angela (Shazi Raja), and Mallory (Schuyler Helford) – witness the Witch torturing a captive woman in a milieu that appears real.
The death trap feeds on their darkest fears, pushing their bravery limits at all turns, but soon, the naïve group realise that nightmares really do come true.
The horror movie has seen roaring reviews so far as it has achieved an impressive 70 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, as critics dubbed it ‘an atmospheric and brutal romp and stomp splat film’.
One penned: ‘What wins in Haunt for me is the villains. They’re fun, imaginative, and creepy. And more importantly for a horror film, the kills deliver. They’re to the point and pretty savage honestly.’
‘A simple and effective bloody exercise in the old-school tradition of the slasher.’
‘Haunt is a brutal Halloween horror that delivers on violence, scares, and will make you want to avoid haunted houses for the rest of the season.’
‘Funny, frightening, endlessly entertaining, and with a whole host of horrible villains and genuinely likable characters, it’s one of the best horror movies of the year and a slasher all-timer in the making.’
‘Although I’ve seen plenty of horror movies with similar plotting and more compelling characters, few slashers have disturbed me, and continue to disturb me, as much as Haunt.’
‘Haunt is an atmospheric and brutal romp and stomp splat film. It’s not anything truly original but the pace and impact at which it runs and hits at will make it an instant favorite for anyone looking for something to fit into the Halloween playlist.’
Netflix fans also flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their delight at the gory thriller.
One wrote: ‘Love a horror movie me currently sat watching haunt on Netflix it’s giving me anxiety oh the highest scale unlocked a new fear of horror houses and chainsaws.’
‘Just re-watched Haunt on Netflix, I remember watching it years back, it’s such a good watch!’
‘Been waiting a while now for Haunt (2019) to come to Netflix. Look forward to watching that one!’
The Halloween-themed hit was rated just 6.3/10 on IMDB as more than 35,000 people took to the review site to give their opinion.
