The heartbroken mum of a teenage ‘murder’ victim in Birmingham has paid tribute to the ‘pleasant and well-mannered’ youngster saying he will be sadly missed’. Diego Henry died two days after being shot in Lighthorne Avenue in Ladywood a week ago on Sunday, November 5.
The 16-year-old was discovered with serious injuries at an address in the road at around 12.30pm but sadly died in hospital on Tuesday (November 7). His mum has issued a statement and said: “My son Diego Henry, was a pleasant and well-mannered young man, who would easily put a smile on anyone’s face.
“Diego will be sadly missed by his mother, father, siblings and exceedingly large circle of family and friends. Diego always expressed a passion for music and would be seen singing, dancing or rapping wherever he was. The circumstances surrounding Diego’s death is shocking for all, but the family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone for their continuous support, prayers and well wishes.”

West Midlands Police has confirmed it is continuing to investigate the shooting, which is being linked to the discovery of the body of a 17-year-old boy in shrubland at a nearby canal by Lighthorne Avenue at around 10.30am on Friday (November 10).
A forensic post mortem examination of the 17-year-old is due to take place on Monday (November 13) to determine the cause of his death. His death is being linked to the murder of Diego and West Midlands Police said: “We are not looking for anyone else in relation to his death.” The force added a 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of Diego’s murder remains on police bail.
Det Supt Shaun Edwards, from West Midlands Police’s homicide team said: “This is a complex investigation and a tragic set of circumstances. My sympathies truly remain with the families of both boys.
“We are pursuing several lines of enquiry, but we still ask that anyone who has information, and hasn’t spoken to us, should contact us. We have increased our uniformed patrols in the area to offer reassurance to the community, please speak to them if you have any concerns.”
