More than 500 homes hit by power cut in part of Greater Manchester – all postcodes affected

More than 500 properties in Manchester are without electricity this evening (November 24) due to a power cut, and won’t have the lights on until later tonight.

Electricity North West has confirmed 573 customers in the Moss Side area of the city are without power. The company said electrical supply was lost at roughly 7:45pm on Friday.

It’s not expected to come back on until 10:45pm, the company has added. As of 8pm, engineers were on their way to fix the issue.

“This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident on the high voltage cable that provides electricity to your home or business,” a statement from Electricity North West said. “We didn’t know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible.

“Please be aware that all our timescales are estimated based on previous experience and may change if new information becomes available while our engineers are fixing the issue. With high voltage power cuts, we’re often able to get many of the homes involved back on before our estimated time of restoration.”

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, a spokesperson added: “If you require any additional support please DM us or call on on 105.”
