Moment dangerous driver is caught speeding at 75mph in 30 zone while wearing football boots

  • Thauseef Tafique, 36, was caught speeding in Oldcotes in Nottinghamshire
  • He admitted dangerous driving and was banned from the roads for 12 months

This is the moment a dangerous driver was caught speeding at 75mph through a residential area while wearing his football boots.

Thauseef Tafique, 36, was clocked travelling more than double the 30mph limit in a quiet rural village after he overtook an unmarked police car in heavy rain and dark conditions on July 26.

Cops pulled over the dangerous driver at around 11pm and found he was wearing football boots to drive in along the A634 Blyth Road, in Oldcotes, Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire Police said they were ‘blown away’ to find the footy player trying to drive in studs as they would not offer ‘sufficient control over the vehicle’.

Tafique, of Sheffield, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was banned from the roads for 12 months and handed a 12 month community order on October 3.

Tafique was also ordered to complete up to 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, pay a £114 victim surcharge and £85 court costs at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

Dashcam footage released by police shows Tafique overtaking a police car in the pitch black, which then immediately speeds up to pursue him.

The police car can be seen travelling at around 80mph as the officer desperately attempts to keep up with the wreckless driver.

The chase continues as both vehicles enter in to the village of Oldcotes, racing past two signs highlighting the 30mph speed limit.

At this point the police car is seen travelling above 60mph, matching the speed of Tafique as he jets through the quiet village.

Tafique then accelerates up to 75mph once again, at which point the officer decides enough is enough and turns on his sirens, forcing the 36-year-old to pull over.

As Tafique exits his vehicle he can be seen bizarrely wearing a pair of white football boots, before he is escorted to the side of the road to speak to the officer.

Sergeant Steve Waft, of the force’s Roads Policing Unit, was behind the wheel of the police car during the incident.

He is then pulled to the side of the road to have a chat with the officer Sergeant Steve Waft, of the Nottinghamshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit

He said: ‘Our top priority is to make the roads throughout Nottinghamshire as safe as possible for everyone using them.

‘As in this instance, as a team we will also deal with any criminality on our roads if we come across it and take appropriate action against offenders.

‘The weather was very poor. It had been raining heavily throughout the evening, leaving standing water in places, and it was dark with no street lighting.

‘I noticed a vehicle come behind me quite quickly. I could see it was pulling out to look at an overtake.

‘As the solid white line changed to broken lines the vehicle overtook me into a blind right-hand bend.

‘As we approached the village of Oldcotes, which has a speed limit of 30mph, the vehicle continued at 68mph slowed slightly, then started to accelerate up to 75mph which was when I illuminated my blue lights.

‘The vehicle pulled over and I spoke with the driver. I noticed he was wearing football boots to drive in which would not offer sufficient control over the vehicle when breaking and accelerating.

‘His driving fell far below the standard of a careful and competent driver.’
