A 19-year-old Colombian model shared a heartwarming post on Facebook for her soldier boyfriend just five days before he murdered her, stabbing her 24 times and stuffing her lifeless body in a suitcase at his home.
Isabella Mesa had traveled to Medellín from Mexico, where she was living with her mother and three-year-old son, and returned to her native country to spend time with Sebastián Villegas, 21 – an army soldier she met online over a year ago.
On January 23, Mesa reposted a sketch of a man and woman hugging with a caption in Spanish that read, ‘All my life I dreamed of someone like you.’
The victim wrote Villegas’ first name on the post and added a sun and a star.
He replied with four heart eyes emojis and wrote, ‘I love you my love.’
DailyMail.com could not confirm if Mesa’s last post on Facebook was created before or after she arrived from Mexico.
Villegas was on vacation and asked his mother if Mesa could stay over at their residence from January 25 to February 2, Medellín prosecutors said.
A close friend of Mesa who spoke to Noticias Caracol under the condition of anonymity that the couple attended a party at a farm residence Sunday, but as the night drew to a close they got into a heated argument.
‘The altercations began at the party. When (the party) was over at the farm where we were, they started to struggle, she told him to let her go, not to grab her,’ the woman said. ‘He was jealous of everyone, he was obsessed, he was extremely possessive.’
Mesa left with Villegas to his home, where he attacked her before fleeing.
His mother made the gruesome discovery in one of the bedrooms and alerted his army battalion. After speaking to his mother and stepfather, he voluntarily turned himself in at a police station in the Medellín neighborhood of Bello.
Villegas made his first court appearance via camera on Tuesday. He faces up to 50 years in prison if he is convicted.
‘The idea is that she was going to spend time with him, but what the mother tells us is that at no time did they see any act of violence prior to these events,’ Medellín prosecutor Yiri Amado told reporters.
Mesa’s best friend, Michelle Vélez, honored her memory with a touching tribute on Facebook the featured pictures from their early teen years.
‘I feel so proud of the woman you were becoming, the wonderful mother you were for that baby you loved so much,’ Vélez wrote. ‘You deserved everything good in this life, since I met you we lived so many moments together which I will always carry in my heart and in my mind, I will never, ever forget you and believe me, justice will be done.’
Vélez revealed that they had previously spoken about women who were victims ‘feminicides’ and how they ‘so afraid that one day’ they could find themselves as victims.
‘Today, with all the pain in my soul, I have to say goodbye to you, my best friend, my partner, my crazy person… I wonder why you? You only brought us all happiness,’ she wrote. ‘I don’t understand why they took your life away like this. You didn’t deserve it. Recently we were talking about everything that would be our life, we were planning our trips, talking about all our dreams.
‘How difficult it is to assimilate that you are no longer here today, that I will never be able to see you again; It hurts me so much to remember that a few days ago when we were talking about everything in our lives, you held my hand and asked me if we would become old ladies together? With all the security in the world I gave you a YES, I made a promise and look now what happened we won’t be able to keep it.’
