Marks & Spencer rolls out a major food update in 19 new stores in the UK

Today, Marks & Spencer announced that it will be rolling out its popular ‘Refilled’ initiative in more stores across the UK.

After a successful trial in six branches last year, the scheme will be expanded to a further 19 stores, making the total 25.


The retailer explained that M&S ‘Refilled’ allows customers to choose from 10 pre-filled, own-brand homecare products, including cleaning sprays, laundry detergents, fabric conditioners and washing up liquids.

The initial purchase will set customers back £2 (including the cost for the returnable bottle), which can be brought back when empty.

Once returned, customers are given a £2 voucher which can be redeemed against a second purchase in the Refilled range.

The scheme has proven popular so far, with more than 10,000 Marks & Spencer customers taking part.

The expansion into more stores is expected to remove around 150,000 pieces of plastic, supporting M&S’ Plan A target to remove one billion units of plastic packaging by 2027, on their roadmap to net zero by 2040.

The most popular M&S product to date has been the Citrus Washing Up Liquid.

‘Refilled’ was launched last year in M&S Aintree, Bluewater, London Colney, London Stratford, Stevenage and Vangarde.
