Newly released Covid figures reveal the rate of infection across the UK as we head into the festive season.
While it is a far cry from the peaks seen during lockdown, thousands of cases are still being recorded in the week leading up to December 9. In England, a total of 5,975 cases were recorded, resulting in 10.6 cases every 100,000 people.
This is a slight increase from 4,312 cases which were recorded in the seven days leading up to December 9, resulting in 7.6 cases per 100,000 people. In Wales, there were 203 new cases in the seven days leading up to December 9 – 6.4 cases for every 100,000 in the country.

This is up from the 149 cases recorded just a week earlier. By local authority, Hastings, had the highest Covid rate with 28.1 cases for every 100,000 people.
