Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek set to join Eintracht Frankfurt in January

Manchester United are closing in on a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt that would see Donny van de Beek join the Bundesliga side on loan in the January transfer window.

The Dutch midfielder has agreed personal terms with the German outfit, who are now set to finalise a loan fee with United in a deal that will also include the option to make it permanent for £12.5million. The deal remains subject to a medical and can only go through on January 1, so Van de Beek will continue to train with United until then and will be available for selection.

Van de Beek came close to leaving United in the summer, but interest from Real Sociedad, Lorient, Fenerbache and Galatasaray failed to materialise in a deal.

The 26-year-old wasn’t included in United’s Champions League squad as it was expected he would leave at the time, but he was named in the 25-man Premier League squad once the transfer window closed. He has made just two appearances this season, playing 19 minutes of the Carabao Cup win against Crystal Palace in September and then two minutes in a league defeat to the same opponents four days later.

Van de Beek’s departure will signal the end of his United career and even if Eintracht Frankfurt decide against making the move permanent, he will be offloaded in the summer after a nightmare three years at Old Trafford.

He was signed for £35million from Ajax to much fanfare but struggled to make an impression in the Premier League, starting just six league fixtures for the club and only 23 games in all competitions. A loan spell at Everton in the second half of the 2021/22 season also failed to turn his fortunes around.
