A man was taken to hospital after being slashed in the arm in what police described as a “serious assault”.
Police were called to Smithdown Road just before 4pm today, July 4, following reports of a fight between two men near the junction with Cullen Street. One man was taken to hospital with slash wounds to his arm.
A 52-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of Section 18 wounding. He has been taken into police custody. Officers remain at the scene to carry out investigations.

Chief Inspector Chris Bland of Merseyside Police said: “We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward as we look to establish the circumstances of this incident.
“Thanks to the fast response from our officers, we were able to arrest a man at the scene, but our investigation is still in the very early stages and we would ask anyone with information to please come forward.
“This incident happened when there would have been plenty of people in the area. If you witnessed what happened or have any information at all, please come forward.”
