Man, 23, arrested after dramatic police helicopter chase through town

A driver was arrested after a dramatic police chase through Bolton last night.

The driver was first spotted in a ‘suspicious vehicle’ in the Astley Bridge area on Friday evening, police said. Checks revealed the car was on cloned plates.

The car was then spotted again on Moss Bank Way a few hours later but the driver failed to stop for officers. Police gave chase through Bolton, with the helicopter used overhead.

The car was then abandoned near Moss Bank Park but, following searches by the helicopter and a police dog, the driver was detained. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop, no insurance and no licence.

He was taken into custody for questioning. The car was seized, police added.

A post on the GMP Bolton North Facebook page last night said: “#SEIZED | Officers from the #Bolton North Neighbourhood Team sighted a suspicious vehicle in the #AstleyBridge area earlier this evening. Checks revealed that it was a cloned vehicle, using the same number plates as a vehicle down south.

“The vehicle was sighted again a couple of hours later on Moss Bank Way by officers from GMP’s Road Policing & Specialist Operations. The vehicle didn’t want to stop for officers and it was pursued around Bolton, with help from the police helicopter.
