Major disruption on trains between Manchester Airport and Piccadilly with all lines SHUT

Trains between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly are being hit by ‘major disruption’ this morning due a points failure.

According to National Rail, all lines are currently shut between the two busy stations. Trains are either being cancelled or ‘revised’.

The disruption is expected until at least 8.30am this morning. The train operators affected include Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales.

The routes currently affected are: the Northern route between Barrow-in-Furness / Blackpool North / Liverpool Lime Street / Windermere and Manchester Airport, and also between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly; the TransPennine Express route between Edinburgh / Glasgow Central / Huddersfield / Lancaster and Manchester Airport and the Transport for Wales route between Chester / Llandudno / Holyhead and Manchester Airport.

Network Rail engineers are currently on the site trying to fix the issue. Train tickets are being accepted on the Metrolink between Manchester Airport and the city centre.

This will extend journey times by 60 minutes, National Rail said. Some rail replacement transport is also in place.
